I've heard something about how you where moving from this to harmonize with the rest of the nordics? i.e. 400V phase to phase and 230V phase to neutral. I have an old kemppi stick welder from the 80s that runs on single phase, but you can hook it up to two phases for 400V "single phase" operation.

A lot of old resistance heaters in houses are made this way as well.

Here in Sweden, they talk about "Norwegian ovens" for old houses without full three phase service which do this. Obviously only allowed because of grandfathering.

I think grandma took multiple and the cat took 3/4 a day.

My little brother asked her why her nose made the cat’s heart fast once. She still brought that up years later.

It's like glassblowing and shaping, except you can touch it and eat it.

I took a neon light/glassblowing class in college, and the requirement for passing was "you have to do 2 of the 3 following things: shock yourself, burn yourself, and cut yourself". The burn one happened I think day 2, turns out there's no visual difference between glass that's room temperature and glass that's 600 degrees, and it's easy to forget which piece you were just working on when you're just learning.

Related, apparently cataracts is incredible common if you're a career glassblower, the infrared from hot glass messes with the structure of lens in your eye.

Here's some insanity from poland I found in the yospos SECfuck thread. A train manufacturer, pissy because they lost the maintenance contract on servicing the trains, modified the software for the trains so that it would brick them if any equipment was changed OR the train's GPS reported it was in a certain set of GPS coordinates for >10 days. Those GPS coordinates all lined up to competitors' service centers.
To fix the trains, you just had to punch a few buttons on the console in a certain order, but the manufacturer didn't tell anyone about any of this. It only came after a hacking group was able to dump the train's computer software and finally discover the "stop working" flags and how to enable/disable them. Once this hit the news, other train maintenance companies with broken down engines tried the konami code and it worked. The hackers now sell jailbreaking kits to remove the train bricking code in the computer since the manufacturer broke/changed the konami code in an update after all of this hit the news.

What's even crazier is the current situation, now that the underlying problem has been resolved. Spoilered just in case, since the whole story is worth reading.

quote:

Interestingly, although there is litigation in the case, it is hard to find an institution in Poland that has done anything beyond kindly expressing interest in the matter. We are not aware of any action taken either by the Office of Consumer and Competition Protection or by the Railway Transport Office, which would seem to be competent to eliminate from the market practices that are damaging to local government organisations that are incurring considerable losses and to passengers who are forced to travel in crowds or use substitute transport for months.

e: oh here's another fun story, my mom had a big great dane, just the biggest sweet baby, completely afraid of loud noises. got prescribed dog xanax. Uncle I always thought was a scumbag came to visit and stole the prescription. my mother searched his vehicle surreptitiously and the bottle was found.

SCUMBAG CONFIRMED

Was it actually Xanax prescribed to the dog? Or Trazodone, which used the same way in dogs as Xanax is in humans (i.e., anxiety). Because if it was trazodone, lol it has no recreational value to humans.
