Considering this the first GTA where the two main characters are a couple, does that mean you can you can still pick up prostitutes or what?
Cause if not this would be this first game since GTA III where you can't. I don't really care much either way. It's always been something I'd do like once each game, be like "heh that's funny you can still do that" and then never do again. But the couple dynamic in this game makes it a little funnier. Like, if you wanted to you could play as Lucile and go cruising for cock if your boyfriend was being a dumbass or whatever. Just for the novelty of it really.
Anyway it's not like there isn't precedent for it. My man CJ was the best to ever do it. Had 6 different girlfriends, one in each city, and still hosed hoes on the side.

Edit: If they're going to keep paying sex workers a thing, they should include gay/trans sex workers as well, even if makes no sense story wise. Maybe make make both protags bisexual. Whatever pisses the most people off.

steal the Nemesis system from the Mordor games and apply it to the cops in GTA. individual cops have vendettas against you and try to track you down, you can humiliate them and make them lose ranks, steal their souls to boost your own hp, or convert them into mindslaves and build your own mini army, with which you can eventually besiege the city.

This but make it so nobody else acknowledges these powerful psionic & soul stealing abilities. They’re still giving you starter handguns so you can “watch your back out there” and you’re still doing things like beach dance party rhythm minigames.

For real, a "hardcore" mode where speeding and running red-lights and stuff can get you police attention is a thing a very certain kind of person would love. Not me, probably, though.

while I like these ideas, I remember seeing the RDR2 videos of the guy who would just stab women 24/7 so I can imagine what these people would do with openly trans NPCs.

That said, people find their own creative ways of being gross with pretty much any game you can imagine, so they should just go for it.

There should absolutely be a sandbox mode with all areas, weapons, vehicles etc. already unlocked. Such a slog to actually go through the early missions when you just wanna rampage

For the single player sandbox mode you should be able to turn police, traffic etc. on or off like in a custom online game

other than the cousin memes it feels like GTAIV has gotten glossed over, but its a great game. doesn't help they didn't port it over for PS4.

im not sure if realistic is the right word, but the gunplay and driving were the least arcade-y of the series. just felt gritty and harder to survive. have to find stranger ways to entertain yourself in the NYC sandbox, can't really cruise in a fighter jet or go far in a car at 120mph in GTAIV

if somebody could just update San Andreas graphics and substitute in GTA 4 mechanics that would be great thanks

no you cant even get out of the trucks unfortunately. you can get in trouble with the law but its in the form of speeding tickets or damage deducted from your pay

perhaps somewhere in the middle is one of the early "bus simulator" games from some russian dev. i played one and while there were no police chases or anything like that, i was able to abandon my post as a bus driver, get up out of my seat, leave the bus full of people in the middle of an intersection, and wander aimlessly around the city. that might not be car theft exactly, but i think at least it's probably illegal.

Manhattan island was already the most-featured irl location in games by then, so it was novel to me that GTAIV featured the other boroughs

But I had been to times square a bunch of times so GTAIV was the one I spent the least time with, it was too similar to be novel but too different to seem realistic

The Division hit pretty hard because it was the closest to a 1:1 model that's been attempted

Anyway, I've had more than one friend in China who have told me that playing Vice City in LAN cafes as kids was their first exposure to anything set in America, which is weird to think about. But if you browse Chinese video sites there's multiple guys who have trekked to the US just to visit the setpieces in Miami or Los Angeles that they saw in GTA

Earwicker

i bought gtaiv shortly after moving to new york, and actually lived in a similar part of town to where niko lived in the game, so even though nyc had been very overdone in games by that point it was still a cool experience. and i agree its cool getting to see brooklyn queens and the bronx in a game not just manhattan

that said it wasn't as much of a lasting experience because there just isn't as much to do and there's not a ton of difference between the different part of the map compared to san andreas or v, it felt more narrowly focused on the story and less on random loving around in the world compared to other gta games, even the minigames were kind of worked into these weird scripted encounters with your cousin etc. it also had a much narrower selection of vehicle types

I felt the same about LA Noire. It's amazing that they put so much effort into re-creating so many streets and locales in LA, in a specific era, some of which no longer exist. And then gave nothing to do with them outside of the story. Even if they did use a bunch for setpieces and shootouts, it's surprising driving through the map to see how many they didn't use even though you can enter the interiors

You can spend 10 minutes just walking through the elaborate interior of a train station, marvel at the architecture and every single terminal, vaguely consider buying a photo book to compare it, and then collect a golden reel off the floor I guess.

I think GTA IV set out to do what it did well, against stuff like Saints Row and Just Cause nipping at its heels, but it seems most people want the jet flying stuff or whatever. I can't say I'm that bothered by it and I'm the guy who kind of wants a tonally inconsistent crime drama. Rampages are fun to me for like 10 minutes - give me more heists and really loving cool set-pieces like GTA IVs bank-job or apartment bust. However, Rockstar really could work on making them less on-rails and emergent. They won't though. We'll get the game interfacing with Tik Tok or some poo poo.

I do enjoy people who are like sincerely "They should do GTA: Glasgow " or whatever, just straight up not getting that these aren't recreations of cities, they're recreations of the cinematic memory of cities.

why do you think those people don't get that? glasgow specifically is too small to be a gta map by itself but it and lots of other parts of the uk are well suited to all kinds of crime dramas and would also work well in a gta game. a uk-based map would be great, the london games were a lot of fun in the old school gta games.
