Yes.
My first contact with Sepultura was hearing Roots, Bloody Roots when I was at the height of my melodic power metal weenie phase, and it was such a colossally bad first impression that I just never really got over it

drat, Roots got a lot of hate when it came out. I remember reading about it and then going to the store and buying it along with Nevermore's Nevermore

At the time I ended up loving Roots and discovering Thrash through early Sepultura, but Nevermore didnt click with me at all at the time.

Now I'm giving Nevermore another chance after all these years. Its weird how you can just miss out on stuff based on decades old opinions from your young and stupid days. Nevermore rules.

Nevermore first album is an acquired taste

The 2nd album is getting there

3-4 are complete masterpieces

5th is amazing but has poo poo production (listen to the remastered version)

6th is an absolute classic

7th is good, but something is...off

And then theyre done.

Lol i did this all off of memory of their album chronology

This is 100% correct Nevermore analysis

My band for this was Emperor, listened to them in uni, never really got it, then listened about 10 years later and was just like "oh these dudes ruled the whole time"

yes that's very hot and i'll deal with it in the morning

Chaos AD is probably overall a better produced album but roots always has a special place in my heart. Agreed that ratamahatta is a banger but I also gotta shout out canyon jam just for where it sits in the track list - it's a great change of pace that only amplifies the energy of the following tracks

edit: gently caress I'm thinking of jasco and itsari leading into ambush, not canyon jam which is the last track

Never got the love for Roots, personally. The percussion was interesting, but not interesting enough to make me want to sit through the worst guitars and vocals of Max Cavalera's entire career

Half of Chaos A.D. was solid bangers though

Refuse / Resist is a total banger but to me, Max sounds like a metal Elmer Fudd on Roots ("Woots buddy woots"). Chaos A.D. is the last Sepultura I enjoyed. However, I saw Sepultura live in 1996 and they sounded pretty sweet, so I get the appeal of the post Chaos era
