Maybe VPN-ing for purchase is possible? I have premium Niagara, but when I made my purchase, it was about 30 ringgit, which is like 7-8USD. Still on the steeper side of launcher prices, but withint the realm of reasonable to me. Not sure if the pricing change is due to region or a price bump at some point, but VPN might be worth a shot. I love Niagara though. It's so clean, and as someone who regularly switches hands when using the phone, having all of the launcher being accessible on either side is so good. Don't think I've ever seen anyone else do things the way that it does, but I suppose you can try some of the many Minimalist launchers out there?

My problem with Nova is that it started crashing on me constantly and now I use Smart Launcher which still gives me all the poo poo I wanted from Nova but it. Works.

This is a good chart of pretty much all the launchers. I'm personally trying out the open source Kvaesitso lately and it seems cool. Lots of search integrations so you can search your online drive (google drive or nextcloud) local files, or a bunch of other services if you want. Up to you if you grant the permissions.

Considering the use frequency a launcher gets I’d say $30 is pretty fair price. I pay way more for my shoes even though I wear them less than half the day and many days not at all. Same goes for socks and underwear. $30 for a pair of underwear I never have to change or wash for years on end? Sign me up.

Still using Nova happily ... that $5 or so has lasted me over ten years. I guess I'll check out Niagara ... $30 isn't much for how much use/time I get out of these things. Like spending money on a nice keyboard/mouse, the launcher is worth it for how much I interact with my phone. I see the appeal of Niagara -- it looks amazing, but it doesn't do at all what Nova does for me. In Nova, I have all my regular apps nicely arranged on a home screen, with the ones I need to access one-handed easily reachable (the porn ones). Also widgets for information I always want at a glance. I basically use the standard app drawer as my "hidden" folder in Niagara's paradigm. I have a second page of just games and widgets, mostly for controlling sound, and my third page is my work-related poo poo. If Nova becomes unusable for me I have no idea what I would replace it with. Maybe the stock launchers.

It's literally just those 1.5 things for me. I even got another row of launcher icons to use as the built in weather widget is half the height of the one I had been using. Unfortunately not enough to get rid of my folders heh. But the folders are really key to not giving a gently caress about the app drawer. That said, this was also a good opportunity to purge unused old apps. edit: one small bug, seems I cannot rearrange the left-most page no matter what. Oh well. I also like having one entirely blank page to gaze at my live wall paper when bored, but this won't let you. After losing HD Widgets I went on a mission to find one I liked. Been happy with Today Weather. Still use a 4x1 row from it for the upcoming week's predictions. The app forecast screen clicking through from the widget are really detailed and nicely laid out as well.

What's a good camera app for my Pixel 7? The native camera app's recent update has made it so my phone takes a really long time to focus (if it can) and hid the brightness sliders (etc) and Night Sight (??) behind a menu.

When Google updated the At A Glance widget to their new design UI I switched to using Another Widget set up exactly like the old At A Glance. Got a free account with one of the supported weather providers, synced it up and now it's like Google never changed that widget.

I have a media file, usually audio, on my PC and I want to be able to jump between listening to it from PC and listening to it from my android phone, as conveniently as possible. Is there a media player that could allow me to do that? The PC and the phone in question are always on the same Wifi network.

I've (finally) decided I'm uncomfortable with Google eating my family photos for AI training, and have decided to disable it going forward. My 4a is in its last year of service, so I was going to need to do this anyway. What's the goon approved Google Photos replacement? Offline-only is fine if need be, I'm used to making manual backups.

It runs in a client on my windows server and whenever I'm on my home wifi it scans a designated folder on my phone (photos and videos) and backs them up to a designated folder on my server. It's extremely lightweight and I'm sure if you're a computer toucher you could make even more use of it. The windows shell or whatever is called synctrayzor. Just a huge warning - you have to set this up such that the destination folder for the backup is passively copying over what's in the source folder. It's possible to set this up wrong and have your phone wipe all your poo poo because it's trying to mimic an empty destination folder. It's pretty clear how to set this up so it doesn't happen but I wanted to mention it. e: This is a backup only type of situation, it's not going to host these files but since they're just in a directory I'm sure you could find some software that would do that.

With my phone's (S22) latest update, Swype has stopped working, which has led me to discover that it was discontinued a while back. What's a good replacement? My favourite aspects of Swype were the swiping itself, and the ability to capitalise by swiping up off the top of the screen after the letter in question, though I'd accept losing the latter ability for a generally good swiping type keyboard. Swiftkey looks like a good bet maybe?

SwiftKey's autocorrect is getting worse over time I think, I'll (correctly) type "Thinking" and SwiftKey wants to change it to "think ING" and I have no loving clue why it would do that. If I misspell a difficult word the autocorrect will suggest a different, equally wrong spelling. It's not every time but it's enough to be obnoxious.

Just tried Swiftkeys and Gboard out and both seem good. As per above, one thing I liked in Swype was the ability to manually capitalise a letter by swiping it then swiping off the top of the keyboard. That doesn't work on Swiftkeys or Gboard but do either have an equivalent function, acheived differently?

I think you can also start a swipe on the shift key or something?
