Is this referee I keep seeing in these 90s AJPW matches the same guy I see in current AJPW? White polo? Kyohei Wada? If so, that rules.

Yup. He's been with the company since 1974 but really started getting big main events in the late '80s.

He's a fun junior heavyweight flyer, not quite as smooth as Dia but who he is? I think he could mesh quite well with DG guys. Did they say who is partner is?

Oh, I literally just opened Facebook & saw that it's Kaito. Neat.

Anyway, I watched Night 5 of Real World Tag League & while it wasn't the best match on the show, Yuma & Kento vs Ikemen & Tachibana was fun. Yuma came out in a jacket & doing all of Ikemen's jacket spots & his insanely drawn out entrance. Also watching Ikemen it's really weird this dude ended up signed by WWE. Because don't get me wrong, he's charismatic, but it's a really weirdo charisma. Like the whole thing with his entrance starts funny, gets annoying, & then gets charming again from how over the top it is. Especially when you can see someone in the ring reacting to it, getting madder & madder that he won't just get in the ring & stay in the ring so they can finally start this poo poo. Kento has always been great at that, & the referee whose name I can't remember did it really well on the previous show too.

Extremely uneventful week. Tokyo Joshi are in Japan, everyone else is somewhere near hibernation before the last week of the year when poo poo goes into overdrive for the next 3-4 weeks. On paper the DDT show is easily the must watch event. We do get some weirdo stuff though. Prominence do their usual thing, I'm assuming the S in TLCS match stands for suitcase, because Risa Sera has done a lot of matches featuring those. But that's a guess. Baka Gaijin + Friends returns to their home in a small Tokyo bar, & then to cap it all off we have Michinoku Pro with the annual tradition of the Great Space War, an absolute clusterfuck of a match that honestly makes little sense but will inevitably feature Great Sasuke taking an insanely stupid bump that a guy aged 54 shouldn't be taking & it'll be an immense spectacle & you probably won't see anything like it until next year's Great Space War so make sure to check it out.

And just for your knowledge, the guys in the Tag League final opener are from Kyushu Pro. It's a similar spot to when MAO & some FREEDOMS guys appeared in NJPW prelims earlier in the year, but this show is happening in Kumamoto Prefecture so they are working with the big indie on the island of Kyushu, current home promotion of Tajiri. They put a lot of their shows up on Youtube if that interests you.

I want to post my thoughts of that show as well.

Opener was a fun Jr BoG match, Abe continued his feuding with referee Kyohei Wada which is entertaining.
Iwamoto vs HAYATO was really good, stuffed a lot of character stuff considering these matches all have a 10 minute time limit, Koji being a real bully to HAYATO here & HAYATO having to try & hang through it.
Evolution match was solid, although ZONES seemed to struggle with linking her spots together, the transitions kind of just weren't there & that stood out to me. Chi Chi generally seemed better at making things feel like a fight rather than just a series of spots.
Then there's a really silly match with 2 of the best wrestlers in the world, Kento & Yuma, tagging with Black Menso-re against 3 masked guys. I know nothing about Giant Enoshima Man, but the other 2 were Shiryu (Kaz Hayashi) & Shin Ichiba (Hikaru Sato), and the whole thing was just inconsequential but joyful house show style nonsense. Kento is selling from Shin Ichiba doing weird spots with qi or something to force Kento down, Yuma keeps looking to rip masks off constantly, & I dunno, their charisma just really carried this. Afterwards we got the first appearance of the sponsor lady, who presented the winners with a box of local produce, looked like an assortment of fruit.
BULK Orchestra vs Eruption underwhelmed, there wasn't enough Hayato Tamura in this match.
Cyrus & Ryan Davidson vs New Period was a bit weird. It was well worked for what it was but what it was was a squash, which I didn't expect but honestly Cyrus & Davidson needed that. I kind of like them? Cyrus isn't great but he's a presence and a bit of a monster, something All Japan doesn't have a lot of. Davidson is actually pretty solid & I hope we see him brought back in the future, seems quite athletic for a dude that size.
Omori & Nakajima vs Tachibana & Ikemen was a hoot & a half. Jiro's gimmick shouldn't work. The entrance should make me angry, it goes on so long, but somehow he's just so charming with it that I just sit & giggle every time like it's the first time, like I haven't seen him do it dozens upon dozens of times. But here he is, throwing those weird jacket elbows & they look snappy. And Nakajima sells them somehow. There was some surprisingly good brawling here & I've really liked how Nakajima seems to be bringing out some aggression in Omori. Also he makes him take off the t-shirt before the match & that's good.
Dan Tamura vs Naruki Doi is another example of I can't say enough good things about 2023 Naruki Doi. I'm not sure many people have more matches in the HM range this year, his consistency across a bunch of promotions has been very impressive & he's really helped this young junior division develop. Him going freelance has been such a good thing for the young guys in the AJPW junior division. This is just another fine example of that.
Atsuki vs Sato was really more about continuing to tell the story of Atsuki seemingly having developed the yips a little bit, but was a good match for that, with Sato just applying cruel looking submission after cruel looking submission while the crowd cry for Atsuki to escape & rally.
Main event nothing to write home about though. Suwama & Suzuki just haven't really worked as a team, I was quite excited going into the tournament but nah, Suzuki being Suzuki just seems to get in the way.

What's interesting is the evil match imo. Nobody sane is like holy poo poo evil and yuj are wrestling Kiyomiya and a young lion on excursion get me a ticket baby. The fact it's not a good match is the most telling thing. Kiyomiya is being used on a Noah show to advance a njpw storyline he's in....

The zsj v tana match is much the same thing but Noah get beloved star tana on the card in exchange for the advertisement. Is Noah management being like bring me evil????

If bloody Ren interferes and shota materialises out of thin air to continue the program I'll be confused at what Noah gets out of this

But he'll definitely win because boy does NOAH book him stronger than they should be booking Kiyomiya. I swear he has blackmail on NOSAWA or something. One of the most bewildering things in wrestling.

What's funny is if it was just Kitamiya vs Ishii & Go vs Kojima then it'd be pretty cool. And Kaito & Oiwa coming out of Tag League should be hot (pun intended) so then you throw them in with one of the worst acts in professional wrestling.
