Lasting Impression is a trap. You can't re-apply Voice of Command to the target, so you miss out on the second half of every officer abilit that "also does X" where the target has VoC.

You start to get extractors again in bulk as part of colony development on a couple of worlds, but only as second-tier projects with harder resource requirements, so there's probably going to be a bit of a natural gap in Chapter 2 before you can get them up and running.

Janus isn't a well-designed quest and it's hindered by being part of a sci-fi story rather than fantasy (there's no reason you can't just call ahead once you've established that the rebels are the good guys, instead of walking through a minefield to locate them) but I think Yrileth's involvement also compounds the confusion in the storytelling. The governor took her in and gave her a home, so now she murders the rebels who are actually working with the Eldar. This is a shocking set-up. Then she's shocked - somehow - to discover that her friend the governor and her mysterious maidservant might have been worshipping Slaanesh and murdering innocent people all this time, because this has simply never come up before. Then she's equally shocked when she brings you to the rebels and they start shooting at you (you were killing them back at the palace, Yrileth! You imbecile!)

Everyone on that planet is just loving stupid.

Isn't there a three turn cool down on a reapply anyway? I haven't had very many fights last that many turns starting Act 2 so I thought it a good pick because I tend to mix up my combos amongst my squad anyway.

I thought it was every other turn, but maybe that's it. But I'm pretty sure I've had Combat go that many rounds -- the fight in the warehouse (?) with all the explosive barrels in Footfall definitely took me a few turns.

e; yea can't be targetted again for 2 rounds. So maybe that's it. I'll pay closer attention next time.

It's the little things my Rogue Trader takes joy in. Those rare opportunities where rather than need to take immediate, drastic action to avoid Chaos corruption or what not, she can just live a little and throw out some jabs.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure Lasting Impression counts as Voice of Command for any ability that checks for it. I know it at the very least carries VoC's range boost to your officer powers. I'll double check my next combat, but my read is that it's only supposed to drop down to half of the benefit, while leaving the 'flag' in place.

OK, yea, I just need to read my abilities better - you CAN reapply Voice of Command

I would have expected/hoped Idira to gain 10 Temp Wounds from Get Back in the Fight while under the effect of Lasting Impression, but guess it doesn't work that way.

So I guess it's not a trap, it's just nowhere near as good as I was hoping :v:

The Exemplar talents are absurd, like things on the level of Mythic Powers in WotR. By the time you get to them everyone in your party starts to feel like an invincible space marine and it owns.

Excellent! My six exceptional people can already one-round a single Chaos Marine and 6 of his cultist toadies. By the end of this, we'll be arm wrestling an Astartes and winning!

That's annoying. Looks like I need to reread my skills as well.

edit: This could also be Owlcat Bugs. I know for a fact right now the trait that makes Hot on the Trail "unlimited" range actually does nothing.

edit 2: Ok, it's just REALLY rules-lawyery. Lasting Impression specifies "half of the bonus" which is probably construed to mean the stat bonuses. And it counts as an "Officer ability" effect, not specifically Voice of Command... despite giving the range bonuses of Voice of Command when VoC clearly states that the effect of being able to target the VoC recipient from any distance is part of VoC. So it's a drunk rules lawyer that doesn't remember the previous rule he cited. :v:

Ok, but you gotta reverse it. The flagrant violation of naming convention bothers me on an irrational level.

Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader - loving xenos? loving xenos!

Know what else bothers me? There is zero chance of me being able to negotiate this battle with six light cruisers who all have twice as much hull as I do.

In BFGA2, I might have been able to do some fancy shinanigans to pull off a tactical victory, but the Owlcat implementation, lack of a way for me to understand the fleet power I'm going into, and the inability to retreat is just... unfun. Yet Another Owlcat Minigame. I also just straight up haven't encountered enough fleets to build up a war chest and upgrade my ship.

You've got a slightly upgraded Sword/Falchion/Firestorm-class frigate. You've barely got any business tangling with a single Eldar(any stripe) escort, let alone their cruisers of any sort. It'd make more sense if the starting ship was a cruiser of some variety (and cruisers aren't too uncommon amongst Rogue Traders), but Owlcat decided to go with a frigate.

Your ship carries like 80% of a cruiser’s armament, moves like a raider, and when upgraded ends up with grand cruiser shields and cruiser or better armor, not to mention that one of your prowess armaments can be a loving lance. It’s a ridiculous ship.

The combat in this is really swingy. I got to the Chaos Space Marine and first round he downed two people and then the sniper downed someone else. So I reloaded and then just beat him hollow, he barely did anything.

I think the AI broke because I just spread out and he only used single shots.

Also is the planet with the space entity supposed to turn into a colony if you let it because it didn't for me?

You're still in Act 2, I think, unless i'm miscounting? In Act 3 you get kidnapped by Dark Eldar, and while running around the city she confesses it to you and explains why she did it. Probably about midway through the chapter, so a good number of dialogue sequences and a couple of fights.

Act 3 wholly depends on who did you have on your party. I never saw that, because she wasn't in my party.
I had
Yrliet, Abelard and Idira as my companions, that got released in that order and had some story content.
Heindrix and Cassia were in a fridge until the final fight gauntlet. They didn't get much exposition.
