To play devil's advocate, the originally posted accusations didn't go into specific details, so being vague about incidents in the apology could be a matter of trying to respect the privacy of the victims. I'm still very wary of this apology as a whole, but I feel like the main issue that needs to be addressed is between Sophie and her victims rather than between Sophie and her audience.

I don't know how you can't be aware of the harm, both physically or mentally, of putting out a smoldering item on someone's skin but okay.

That initial thread is basically perfect in how the response really should be and the outcome desired. Punitive justice isn't really what's needed, though I'm not sure of the value of watching their videos on trans activism from someone who treats trans people this way. It would ring hollow and very self-serving to me.

Gosh, I'm always struck by how much natural comic talent this guy has. I have no idea how much of what he does is riffing on the spot and how much is carefully planned out -- I'm guessing there's more of the latter than it looks like -- but he's amazing at making it all seem really organic with his timing and delivery. What at first seems like an unstructured rant is filled with so many quick interconnected setups and callbacks.

What killed me the most for some reason was "full Phantom".

Edit: also, I mean, there's the simple fact that he managed to get an hour of solid content out of this song that was done to death months ago. And it is mostly about the song.

I'm sure chargebacks are a real issue in some area that I'm unfamiliar with, but most people who complain about them publicly are either lying or doing something illegal.

As somebody who used to work at an adult toy/porn store I heard this was a huge issue that upper management had to deal with because there's a not-insignificant amount of people who will do chargebacks. Sometimes it's buyers remorse (since everything is, understandably, non returnable) and sometimes it's somebody trying to just get what they bought for free by pretending their card got stolen, etc.

We had to ask everybody for a matching government-issued ID for every single card transaction because of it and it was a huuuge pain in the rear end

On an anecdotal note, have also had a friend deal with this kind of poo poo personally after one guy bought a bunch of her OnlyFans stuff. it's an unfortunate reality for any business dealing in NSFW content

yt has such a lovely system. the person/company making the copyright claim hardly has to do anything while the person they're claiming against has to do all the work to defend themselves. it incentivizes lovely behavior on the copyright holder. and on top of everything else, even if the defendant wins, they still lose out on all the revenue that would have accumulated as things were being sorted out.

I came across a creator named Majuular the other day who covers (semi)obscure video games in great depth. Some of the best are his reviews of extremely weird point and click games that used extensive real footage composited with early 3d graphics, like Harvester or Dark Seed. But he also covers some jrpg classics like Golden Sun and Skies of Arcadia, as well as a very strange series called Shadow Hearts and its prequel, Koudelka (which is set at a welsh monastery and has quite good mocap acting, and possible the worst horse animation I've ever seen.)

https://www.youtube.com/@Majuular/videos

His presentation style is organized and conversational, always showing graphics of the games and never (or hardly ever) cutting away to himself to deliver long chunks of analysis. Some videos are too long for me, like a 3+ hour discussion of Kings Field or Yakuza, but all the others I got through easily!

maybe for one second you can pause; try to step into another person's perspective, and understand that a watermelon is cursing me

the person/company making the copyright claim hardly has to do anything because under american law youtube has to make technical accommodations for companies to run bots/etc over their content in order to identify infringing material, as well as promptly block access to any content that is alleged to be infringing and delete accounts that repeatedly offend - if they don't, then they lose their safe harbour status that protects them from being directly liable for every piece of copyright material they host.

yt just seems extra trash because its size means its content is regularly checked by large amounts of copyright holders, but basically any american host is going to run into the same problem because copyright protection laws are largely written by lobbyists for rent-seeking copyright holders.

It's worth noting that most of his videos are also deliberately and intentionally positive. Even when he covers games that he, personally, dislikes or criticizes he tries to at least focus on the positives before covering the negatives and rarely ever gets hugely just bogged down in complaining and hating a game. I don't like Chrono Cross much but it's neat to see someone have a positive video about it.

I legit forgot how funny NerdCubed was. I used to watch his Lets Plays with my boys. They were a good mix of comedy and game review. We laughed our asses off with Hitman: Blood Money and Sir, You're Being Hunted. Around 2013, he started getting bigger and tried to diversify his content which ended up watering everything down. It was a mess.

After while, Markiplier uploaded his FNAF video and that scratched that itch.

I don't know if it's worth speculating about without seeing the original tweet or when it was posted. Like, my reflex would be that it's some old remark that's taken on a new bad taste like that tweet Lowtax made saying "Rich Strikes Rich Striking Wife" or however it went. But yeesh if it's at all recent.

So after the incident in question but before the allegations went public. That's even more ghoulish than if it had been a response to the call-out since it's just her publicly taunting an ex-partner she abused without her audience realizing it.
