Moths all day every day. The emperor butterfly's catterpillar makes a strong contender though.

Based on personal associations, definitely team butterfly. The worst one is like an agricultural pest while moths have bagworms, ones that gets into bags of rice, etc. A nice sunny day in a meadow filled with butterflies is hard to beat imo.

Butter flies can travel hundreds of miles (from mexico), moths have a much lower max range and are the inferior choice

Pretty butterflies that fly outdoors in the sunlight vs. dingy moths that eat your clothes in the dark and keep flying into electric lights until they die and you gotta clean up their carcasses? Butterflies win.

Both are cool and good but moths wins with a slight edge. Just cool and goofy creatures that knows what they want(Death by burning from a light).bitterandtwisted posted:being covered in butterflies is beautiful. Being covered in moths is horrifying Sounds fuzzy and nice actually. Butterflies have weird insect legs, as the OP illustrates.

Pound for pound, butterflies are the deadliest fighters on the planet. Well, maybe there's something deadlier at the bottom of the ocean. We just don't know.

In the same way that all vertebrate animals are fish, are all butterflies moths. Being a moth is just the ground plan of being a Lepidopteran. One group of moths evolved antennae with clubbed tips, a (mostly) diurnal habit, and colorful wings. All butterflies are each others' closest relatives, but some moths are more closely related to butterflies than to other moths. Fun fact, the ancestral groups of moths don't have a proboscis, they have jaws and chomp on pollen grains.

Butterflies for me because I see more cool butterflies than cool moths. In fact, I don't think I've seen a cool moth in person, just dumb plain flutter bugs that die in the light fixture.
