0.000% of Communism has been built. Evil child-murdering billionaires still rule the world with a shit-eating grin. All he has managed to do is make himself *sad*. It has, however, made him into a very, very smart boy with something like a university degree in Truth. Instead of building Communism, he now builds a precise model of this grotesque, duplicitous world.

Good in the sense of fleetingly amusing me personally rather than actually improving things. The entire concept of accountability through public questioning - including e.g. asking questions at the end of a Ben Shapiro talk - is fail because ultimately the people being scrutinized either half another chance to talk their rubbish or just dodge like you say.

quote:

Growing despair of asylum seekers on Bibby Stockholm over living conditions

Asylum seekers on the Bibby Stockholm barge are becoming increasingly desperate about their living conditions as the Home Office admitted that the vessel has cost taxpayers more than £22m so far.

Following the suicide of an unidentified resident on Tuesday, asylum seekers said that conditions have deteriorated after up to 300 people were moved on to the barge.

Their words come as the government disclosed that the “vessel accommodation services” related to the barge in Portland, Dorset, have costs of £22,450,772.

Given that the barge has a capacity of about 500 residents, and if it is used for an initial 18 months, the cost works out as £91 a day for each resident.

I believe this is on top of the £1.6bn paid for the 18 month rental of the barge.

So that works out as £5,860 + £91 = £5,951 per bed per night.

quote:

Asylum seekers told the Guardian about their concerns over the security onboard which requires them to go through airport-style security and body searches even if they just want to step outside for a cigarette, a deterioration in the quality of food, and shortages for those at the end of the queue.

“The boat is like a prison and more and more things are going wrong,” said one asylum seeker.

The asylum seekers said they initially grieved for a man who is still alive after the name and photo of the wrong person was publicised by one organisation as being the man who died.

“The conditions are getting worse and worse,” said another asylum seeker. “We are terrified they will unlock the boat and sail it away to Rwanda.”

Home Office sources said they are unable to release the correct name of the man who died yet as certain “protocols” have to be followed. Asylum seekers on the barge say that because of the lack of clear information from the Home Office speculation has filled the void.

“We are distressed that we got information about the wrong man who took his life. The Home Office needs to tell us the name of the right man,” said one asylum seeker. “We are all feeling very distressed. The Home Office wants to close our eyes and blindfold us.”

Initially asylum seekers said they were told only about an “unfortunate incident” after the man’s death.

Another asylum seeker told the Guardian: “Everyone is terrified. That’s mainly due to the secrecy of the barge’s management over the situation, like they’re trying to find a convincing story to tell us and the public.”

The asylum seekers on the barge followed the news about the voting in favour of the new Rwanda bill on Tuesday evening.

“People are hearing increasing bad news. They are afraid they will be going to Rwanda and are very depressed. People are crying. They feel like they’re in a jail,” one said.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/barge-australia-asylum-contract-travel-b2354578.html

I did some more digging about that £1.6bn dodgy contract. This is from June:

quote:

An Australian travel firm previously slammed for its handling of Covid quarantine hotels has been quietly handed a £1.6bn contract covering the UK’s new asylum accommodation ships, The Independent can reveal.

Corporate Travel Management (CTM) was put in charge of the lucrative two-year arrangement in February, weeks before the government revealed it would use a barge as its first offshore accommodation for asylum seekers.

The contract was awarded directly to CTM without competition, and a lawyer with knowledge of the system said the government had pushed a wider deal originally drawn up for official travel “beyond what it was intended to be used for”.

Ministers have repeatedly refused to detail the projected cost of Rishi Sunak’s controversial asylum vessels, while insisting they will be cheaper than using hotels that are currently costing £6m a day.

This week, Suella Braverman told parliament’s Home Affairs Committee she could not predict the cost of the new Illegal Migration Bill, because there are “many unknown factors”.

Three vessels so far have been announced, with a barge named the “Bibby Stockholm” due to arrive in Portland, Dorset later this month and a further two ships set for undisclosed locations.

Richard Drax, the Conservative MP for South Dorset, said the public “should know how much is being paid” on the barge set-up and said the spending he was aware of so far was “alarmingly high”.

Any news on the other two barges?

Even then, I've read pseudoarchaeological nonsense books for children from like 1905 that managed "everyone was very racialist towards the coloureds back in the past, but then Britain and the Royal Navy stopped the slave trade and now things are better" and now it's apparently woke to even go looking for evidence that the loving 14th century might have been racist.

Maybe they can still get their grant if they can phrase it in a similarly bollocks way, like "the bubonic plague disproportionately affected BAME Londoners, but later Boris Johnson became mayor of London and now people only sometimes get 14th century diseases"

Yeah the giant newbuild estate is probably the least efficient use of space.

You could build a proper condo complex housing with the same number of inhabitants with integrated facilities + shopping mall in the basement like they do in Asia and take up about as much space as an out of town Tesco Extra + car park.

Feel like you should probably adjust for population. But then Boris comes out even better. But seeing as it's "better than the handling of a deadly plague from an era before the understanding of germ theory and vaccination and all that jazz" it's not much of a win.

I think the problem with aero concrete is that it's prone to concrete cancer, which is specific to reinforced concrete which technically makes the problem that we are using advanced concrete while the romans used shitloads of unreinforced concrete.

You couldn't build the things they built out of RAAC with unreinforced concrete, if you want a big span of unreinforced concrete you have to build the pantheon.
