Nothing's better than postin' in the morning!

Just got an update email from Arrow stating that my The Warriors 4K Limited Edition has been delayed. No other info or ETA in the email but honestly I forgot when it was supposed to ship anyway so it's no skin off my nose as long as it arrives eventually.

This does remind me that I haven't received any info about my VinSyn order from Black Friday either but I remember that they usually take a while to ship those out.

Yeah just got the same email from arrow. My order status is "awaiting stock pick" with no other info. It was supposed to ship next week Tuesday so I'm a little bummed if it takes til next year.

Did you order any of the new preorders like the Michele Soavi films? If so, then those are getting shipped out later because they tend to get the new releases into the warehouse last.

Vs and severin usually just go quiet during these weeks and work on shipping out. If u only ordered old stock chances are you'll get it sooner than if u ordered something new. VS prioritizes subscribers tho

It never stops.

Vinegar Syndrome even has a big ole red EXPECT DELAYS ON BF ORDERS banner on the site, I don't think I've seen that before. They expect to have everything shipped by the end of the month, at least.

I ended up making money when I was forced out of my old apartment and I'm staring so hard at a VS Year subscription, but Laurie Anderson just announced a concert in San Francisco next year and I can't decide.

I saw the theatrical re-release of the 4K Special Edition last week and it looked great! There was one shot that I noticed looked like garbage at the very end of the movie, but maybe that was an effects shot that didn't look good in 1989 that they couldn't make look good in 2023. I don't know. That was my first time ever seeing the movie, so I didn't have a previous reference :shobon:

When you open the shots up you can see there's a splash of red in the bottom right of the frame, can't tell if it's part of a chair that the guy is sitting on or what. Anyway you can really see how drastic the color shift is when you compare the shades of red there. And that's before you even get into the grain conversation.

Since there's only two and a half weeks of the year left, quick question: what's on your blu-ray wishlist for 2024?

Mine:

Wild Zero, on Region B, other than that one German release
A proper, and complete Drunken Master 2 set
A proper and complete The Grandmaster set
Criterion to give Traffic and Paris Is Burning UK releases
A Godzilla Minus One release that does the film adequate justice
A Criterion Heisei Godzilla set
The Mighty Boosh
Father Ted

What About Bob?
Pee-Wee's Big Holiday
Margaret (Extended cut, which is only available on DVD)
Cuddly Toys (supposedly happening in 2024, my guess would be VS or a sister label)

My number one want is Bottoms (2023), BD or 4K is fine as long as the features are good and the movie is watchable. I'm right there with you on Wild Zero, and I really want another release of Interstella 5555. The Godzilla releases you mentioned would be must-buy as well. Takashi Miike's Ace Attorney and a Region A release of Antiporno are also big wants, though I'll gladly get the Third Window Films release of Antiporno if I end up with a region-free BD player.

I actually sent a huge email to Criterion's Suggestions inbox last week, just to shoot my shot, and it included several requests for releases I wish had better treatment, particularly Network. Some of these are probably impossible due to licensing issues and I doubt anyone even checks that email but gently caress it, I might as well try, right? At least Paprika got the new announced release so that's good enough for me.

For updated releases that I doubt will ever happen because I'm probably the only person on the planet who wants them, Tekken: Blood Vengeance and Dude, Where's My Car? would be nice.

I imagine Twister will get a release when the sequel comes out but this past year released most of what I was waiting on. I’d still like The Burbs because it’s my favorite movie but the Blu is perfectly serviceable.

I always keep a dim hope that Criterion will do a 4k of The Ice Storm. I lent my last copy out and it never returned so it would be easy to justify buying again and it’s a really beautiful period piece.

Cafe Lumiere

Heisei and Millennium Godzilla box sets

Oh yeah, also
Gunhed

And a fancy box set of Born Losers, Billy Jack, The Trial of Billy Jack. and Billy Jack Goes to Washington

And any company getting the license for a lot of Hammer stuff and doing a series of nice releases of Hammer movies where you can at the very least get all their Dracula and Frankenstein movies in a way that looks nice altogether on a shelf

Yea I think a really comprehensive Hammer set is unrealistic and would probably be too expensive anyway, but it be awesome if we got two separate sets for the Draculas and the Frankensteins. Right now I only own one or two of each series on blu ray just because I don't want to buy them all individually. I have a bunch of them on DVD though because there are some cheap sets floating around.

All I'm saying is when Criterion's release schedule next year includes American Movie, Interstella 5555, Bottoms, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, Linda Linda Linda, Barton Fink 4K, Swiss Army Man, The Wrestler, Network, Loving Vincent, the Roger Corman Poe cycle, Death Race 2000, Black Dynamite, The King Of Comedy, The Room, Speed Racer in 4K, and Be Kind Rewind you'll know who to thank.

Seriously how was Speed Racer not one of the first 4Ks released? It feels like it'd be a perfect way to show off the strengths as a medium with its frantic editing and wild colors. And it's ridiculous that Death Race 2000's only BD release is over $100 right now. :colbert:

When it comes to 4k stuff what I really want now is Altman films. Maybe McCabe & Mrs. Miller signals that others are coming, although I'm not sure of the rights situation with Criterion and the other Altman films they've released on blu like Nashville, Short Cuts, and The Player. I'm pretty sure they lost the rights to Nashville at some point.

I also think Popeye would make for an outstanding UHD. It's one of the best sets ever built in the history of film and I want to see that thing in the best quality possible.

ultraviolence123

One movie that no one sends to really know about that needs a Blu is Mike's Murder from 1984. It's crazy to think it only has a cheap DVD, as Debra Winger is the star and James Bridges, who wrote both The China Syndrome and the adaptation of The Paper Chase and directed Bright Lights Big City, also directed this. It's a great early 80s neo noir that deserves to be rediscovered.

Also would like to see A.P.E.X., an awesome Terminator-esque sci-fi / time travel movie, get a release. Obviously want to see proper discs for Hard-boiled, The Killer, City on Fire and A Better Tomorrow.
