It sucks that Tim Sweeney is probably the dumbest motherfucker to ever walk the earth, spreading harm in his wake like a biblical wake, but Epic has some pretty good deals, occasionally fun free games and exclusives I just can't miss out on.

I haven't played it since full release but from what I played in EA:
I wouldn't exactly put it next to Battle Brothers like people often do, they're fairly different. That's correct that it's not much of a sandbox and follows a narrative story, with some areas of the map locked off until you reach certain points in the story.

It's not as tactically deep as Battle Brothers either. Units scale a lot with level, to the point where it's very difficult to win fights with enemies that are even one level higher than you, and enemies that are one level below you become meaningless popcorn fights. This means even the way you progress through battles is fairly linear.

It does some pretty cool stuff for immersion and your ability to interact with the world beyond doing battles. Tradeskills that have active minigames attached and things like that.

It's entirely competent and people who are interested in that style of game will probably like it, but I was chasing another Battle Brothers and didn't care for it enough to try it again after 1.0.

Akka Arrh is real cool, I ended up picking it up recently on Steam.
Probably not going to dislodge Polybius for my favourite Minter experience but the core gameplay mechanics all mesh together in a really satisfying way and I'm going to be sinking time into it off and on for a while I imagine.

This has more or less been my experience as well. Maybe I'm not far enough into Wartales to encounter different enemies yet, but a lot of the fights do start feeling very samey after a while. Most of your opponents are some flavor of human and occasionally animals (who you fight basically the exact same way)

Whereas in Battle Brothers you can fight bandits, the undead, Orcs, Goblins, Nachzehrer and they all fight differently and require different approaches from each other. For example you might come across a bunch of ranged goblins fortified on a hill with a bunch of ranged weapons and throwing nets. So you need your own ranged to shoot back or heavy armor/shields to get to them. Nachzehrer are these fast moving creatures that are deadly up close and can grow stronger when they feed on any corpse, so there's this fun tactical element where you want to keep them away from you as much as possible and yet may have to move up to 'claim' corpses so they don't get stronger.

Steam is officially on my last loving nerve.

It refuses to show me anything with "adult content". It tells me I have it blocked. I do not. Every single box for allowing content is checked. No matter how many times I check/uncheck various things, it changes nothing.

Has anyone had this happen before? Any ideas for how to fix it?

theHunter: Call of the Wild is a very chill walking game. The hunting grounds look good and there are three parks in the base game so you can get plenty of hours without DLC. It does take patience to track an animal. It can get a bit frustrating but it's very rewarding to get a clean kill. Then sometimes a herd of deer will keep walking back to your camping spot and you just mow them down one by one like a deer terminator.

Edit: I should mention that there are unlockable perks and new guns cost money that comes from harvesting animals. The perks aren't major as I recall. And it never held me back from having a usable gun.

I completely agree - it's the best 'walking around outside in nature' game there is IMO. Beautiful places.

e: they recently added DLC to have a Labrador too. So you can take your dog for a walk.

Also a big fan of theHunter, when I was homesick for the Rockies I would walk around that terrain and not feel so bad. I wound up going hog wild on the DLC, picked up everything but Mississippi.

The Finland map is really fun for duck hunting too.

A friend sent me an invite for the skull and bones beta and I figured what the hell let's try it. I had zero expectations but even still they hosed up with this one. They managed to make a pirate game where sailing the boat and shooting cannons at other boats and sinking boats feels like dogshit garbage. You can turn on a dime and the cannons are like rocket launchers on a cooldown. At some point someone must have pounded a fist on a table and said "esports this game up about 75% goddamnit" and this iteration of this game congealed into existence. AC4 boats this ain't, unfortunately.

Creative Assembly has a LOT of work to do to regain trust. Here's a comprehensive, step-by-step breakdown on the enormous work they will have to do, sorry for the upcoming wall of words:

1. Release Medieval 3
2. Make sure it has a really robust family tree
3. Let me choose my own heirs.

Phew, need a rest after getting that all out.

Are you in Germany? Steam has to block all porn games here, because they do not want to do whatever age verification is necessary, and "even my Steam account is older than 18 years at this point" is not good enough
