Ok its really weird that they gave Baeloth this hyper alliterative dialogue in Dragonspear when he didn't really talk like that at all in BGEE But other than that I'm happy to be rolling with evil squad again, though him AND Edwin together seems a little redundant Also lol at the guy who lost my quarter mil just randomly showing up with a gold bust of my face, so far this is the best questline in the game

Looking forward to doing the iron man run this year for the first time! Thinking for a gimmick I'll go with a "shortie" party so a gnome Fighter/Cleric bhaalspawn, Kagain, Alora, Yeslick, Quayle and Tiax, and when they fight to the death I'll keep the winner and go pick up Montaron (I will probably use addons to move NPCs to more convenient locations - what's the best one to do this with?). Might have to pause the gimmick for SoD outside of Glint and M'Khiin it's slim pickings. Then SoA I can grab Korgan, Mazzy and Jan and then cycle party members for their quests. Boom. All installed just waiting for the start.

There are mods for BG2 that add Yeslick and Alora (and yes, Tiax). Does Wilson count as a shorty? They walk on all fours, that seems like cheating

Wolfsheim posted:I would hesitate to call DOS1 a very good game because having just played it this year it feels more like a proof of concept for a better game (presumably DOS2 which I've barely played). The companions are borderline non entities, the first town is full of so many wacky British fantasy characters that Fable would blush, the main plot is the most rote 'collect star stones to stop star demon' faff, the crafting is so bad it makes me want to die and the only real saving grace is the ridiculously varied combat system. I know this is like 4 days old, but I had an extremely negative experience with D:OS1 and I felt like I was being gaslit by all the reviews being in the 90s. I completely misunderstood what the character personality setting did on character creation and wound up being unable to recruit characters because of it about 8 hours into the game. Not only that, but the environmental effects system felt more random than designed because I had to think like 4 elemental interactions ahead or else the battlefield would just explode with effects and kill my party. I realize that these issues fall on the player mostly, but I'm pretty experienced with turn based and tactical games and I did not enjoy D:OS1 at all. It felt very sandboxed with the actual design not being coherent.

I didn’t like OS1 either but it was part of the crpg renaissance so I don’t blame folks for gushing about it. Anyways, hyped for Ironman! Maybe this year I’ll make it out of BG1

Real question - is there any mod or scripting combination that I haven't tried that will make my mages or casters use their spells until they are gone as opposed to mostly attacking with melee?

I haven't played enough of DOS2 to really know the combat differences but maybe they also prefer IWD to BG, like just a series of escalating combat challenges with an almost nonexistent plot/characters to get you to the next fight

Yeah, it was the system that would have translated perfectly to a video game, way better than any other edition, because of its consistently formatted ruleset, and it existed entirely in an era where no D&D games using the official ruleset were really made. I assume there was licensing limbo or something during that era?

I assume there was licensing limbo or something during that era? There was a D&D Tactics game, but it was based on 3.5 edition rules, was on the PSP and was also not very good. Dr. Quarex posted:This might have further added to the 4th Edition Bad warfare, too, as unlike 5th Edition only people who actively sought out a tabletop campaign running it were ever exposed to the rules. I never had more than an extremely surface level understanding of 4th Edition and I could probably make a character from any other edition without even looking at a book. I played 2e extensively and don't much care that I missed 3/3.5/5, but I regret missing 4e quite a bit. I also didn't get Windows 8. Perhaps one day you can explain to me what the point of that was. Windows drove me bananas until NT 4.0, which I liked a lot but didn't work with a lot of things, and then XP came out which I thought was fabulous. Been smooth sailing since then.

I have no idea why it surprised me when Jaheira shows up in Siege of Dragonspear when she's like, the fourth main character of the series. I kinda forget about her and Khalid because I traded up for Dorn/Viconia pretty early on in BG1 because of their overwhelmingly better combat presence and fun evil vibes. Whatever I like her bard friend he seems about as interesting as a 2nd edition bard could really be

And the person who'd helped me do all the scripting work for Darian had moved on to other things.

Wow, just in time to do my more-or-less annual reinstall too! On first read, some of it I love, some of it I probably wouldn't use, and some of it I'm already cringing at trying to see how compatible it is with the rest of the rickety house of cards I usually install. e. Yeah I think I'm gonna try this instead of Spell Revisions for sure. (It's theoretically compatible but it looks like he's only tested it with an older and buggier SR version, plus I like most of his changes better, at least on paper). Of course installing an in-development beta mod around Iron Man time* is a great idea, why do you ask? *Speaking of, who's doing the thread this year? (...maaaaaybe I will? If someone else has their heart set on it I won't but I'm willing!) docbeard fucked around with this message at 11:03 on Dec 15, 2023 |

Ginette Reno posted:druid/mage sounds kinda cool but also having to hit 14th level Druid on a multiclass sounds extremely hilarious to me ToF has the same option for using the Cleric leveling table (and casting table) for Druids like Tweaks Anthology does. Though I don't know if that's enough to make a level 14 or 15 multi, it does smooth the level 14 and 15 druid xp curve. Heithinn Grasida posted:This looks pretty cool. How playable are these on the steam deck? They're very installable directly on the Deck. The Deck is how I play the games these days. But the install can be slow for large mods like ToF and especially SCS given the Deck's limited CPU so I now install on the PC and copy the mods over. If you just copy all the extra stuff mods install, it just works. EEex and mods that use it, like Bubb's Extended Spell Menu, work too. The main thing is to force the Deck to use the Windows version of the game instead of the native Linux version, which is as easy as ticking the box that forces a Proton version to be used in the game's properties. E: lmk if you want more detail on either approach - install on Deck or copy over. I've also got a customized for the Deck controller binding I can share. v1ld fucked around with this message at 13:13 on Dec 15, 2023 |
