As a computer scientist I respect the opinion of the software makers yet I dislike the bastardization of Greek/metric standards. But hard drive manufacturers gotta market, so metric units helps the old spinning rust look bigger. I just wish the shift to solid state drives could have fixed this issue but nope we still get metric gigabytes.

I'm not sure I had realized metric gigabytes carried over into SSDs, but I'm angry either way.

the saline just slowly gets absorbed into your blood but in the meantime you got a big round smooth distended nutsack

iirc either pronunciation of gigawatt is acceptable because both use sounds represented by G and there's no more opportunity for ambiguity with one over the other. using the hard G is just a matter of convention

I remember my 540 MB Western Digital HDD was really about 502MB. Add in the overhead of the file system and you're under 500MB.

Cactus Ghost posted:

To be fair, the Explorer was a body on frame RWD or 4x4 SUV for a long time, though they had IRS once they hit the 2nd or 3rd gen IIRC (1st gen had a solid rear) - that's a 3rd gen (2002-2005 MY), also the first generation to not be based on the Ranger. 4th gen was still body on frame too; they didn't go to unibody until 5th gen. Body on frame has been largely "truck/proper SUV" since cars got away from that (the last BOF car in the US was the Crown Vic/Lincoln Town Car/Grand Marquis, and they were down to only fleet sales for the last several years of the Crown Vic).

"Crossovers" started out based on a car chassis. Later ones are a dedicated CUV chassis, but they're still unibody and generally FWD, and many of them still trace their roots to a car chassis.

Proper pronunciation is socially constructed and forms organically. It's always hilarious when inventors insist it "should" be said a certain way when almost literally everyone does different. But even beyond that, it's not like pronunciation is consistent across the entire anglosphere.
