I'm trying out a week of free Lightroom (or paying for a month, it's memory roulette!) and I tried putting this Daurian Redstart through the auto-adjust and denoiser. Not quite sure how I feel about it yet, the auto seems fairly competent at judging the mood but it does seem to favor an Instagram style color pop.

Subjectively the Auto option seems to really like cranking the "Vibrance" value which might be the cause of your concern? The AI denoising feature is relatively new but seems to work well.

Finally got a hold of a Nikon 180-600 only to get trolled by a Northern Harrier who thoroughly defeated me and the focus system, but really the former. I had a pigeon nesting on my balcony last month. I set up a camera in my living room pointing out of the door so I could capture the growth of the chicks without disturbing them. If you ever find yourself in Brisbane, QLD, Australia with a couple of hours to spare - particularly in late November - I can highly recommend a trip out to Wynnum boardwalk. The path goes to a bird hide (only thing I saw there was the very calm Welcome Sparrow that let me test out minimum focus on my 300mm) and then out to a boardwalk through the mangrove forest. Yeah it’s a great spot. There’s so many kingfishers in the mangroves along the boardwalk walk too. I think the bird hide is a bit too far from the water, or maybe the water has receded a lot since it was built. Another couple of good spots, if you want the drive, are the mangrove walk through Harry Ziegenfusz Park at Cleveland. Also, if you get there 2 hours before high tide, Toondah harbour - good place for eastern curlews and other shorebirds. See it now before it may be concreted over.

How many of us are from Brisbane? Anyway, big shout out to the Sandy Camp Wetlands. We saw a spoonbill out there last week, and it's also great for general landscape photography too.

Sandy Camp owns. Lots of Bee Eaters there. Just a shame about the location and power lines. Love a good peli shot

I'm not from Brisbane, I was just visiting. I visit a few times per year, and I'll certainly be checking out Harry Ziegenfusz and Sandy Camp next time. Wynnum has its own industrial-chique aspects, too. Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk 05 by Martin Brummell, on Flickr This was taken from just outside the bird hide, which is indeed a bit far from the water. The hide and its immediate surroundings used to be a rubbish tip, according to the signs, and changes since they closed & capped the pile (settling, vegetation growth including unplanned species) may have made its location a bit less suitable. Still, there are some good views into a patch of tidal wetlands that might attract some interesting species sometimes. I haven't reached the kingfishers in my photos, yet, but here are a few more from the first bit of my walk on that path.
