I don't know why that post stayed in my memory for so long, but I am happy to say I was completely right to be doubtful of peoples' extremely emotional reactions to those glasses. Today the youtube algorithm blessed me with a video that exposes the viral marketing campaign behind that and other videos like it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ppobi8VhWwo Turns out, the glasses can literally make it harder to distinguish colours, even for those who are not colour blind. As I initially suggested, like any other sunglasses, they simply add a tint to what you see, which, duh, changes how you see colours.
