I asked them to elaborate on what they meant by “bad” because it doesn’t mean anything besides “I didn’t like it” without context.

They’ve now switched to assuming I’m some kind of Flana-stan. Even though all my posts have been other criticisms.

What’s the response besides “lol, I’m talking to a child, never mind”?

I wish people would stop pretending like they don’t know what words mean. Bad does mean something. Even if it means different things to different people you get that when someone says it’s bad they didn’t like or appreciate it.

"bad" doesn't mean "i didn't like it". it's the other way around. if i don't like something, that means it's bad.

I think that's why it's good though. Spielberg did it completely earnestly so there's nothing forced about it. The movie allows you to have those thoughts and come to those conclusions on your own just like Spielberg had to over the years. The movie was made by a guy who really did have that level of wide-eyed enthusiasm for aliens, he was oblivious to the implications just like the main character was. HOLY poo poo ALIENS!!! overrode all of that in the moment.

You accused me of repeatedly using a word after I said it one time, then told me the word was useless, my opinion was wrong and I was bad at criticism. You also ignored everything else I said about the writing and why I didn’t like it (as well as what I did like about the show). But sure, I’m the child.

Don’t know why you think anyone would be concerned with what you consider serious discussion if you read and post this poorly.

Which is why I’ve moved to have Bottom Liner banished from the thread! That real thing I definitely did.

O wait. No. I just said they had a bad opinion, to make fun of them for calling things “bad” without qualification.

Where is this argument even going?

Let me spell it out for you: you were the first person in this discussion to use the word “bad” in reference to the writing, which undermines your entire position and makes your every post following it more pathetic.

You could try actually reading the sentence where they used the word "bad" because it explained exactly what they thought was bad about the writing.

Listen here, funnyman!
So I finally got around to watching X and...wow, that was a nice blast of fresh air. I loved how it was not only a 70s period slash flick (it took so much influence from Texas Chainsaw it isn't even funny) but somehow also managed to be about pornographic films from that era. That was a unique combo and directed so well and was more unsettling than you'd think.
