There does seem to be a sizable number of people who buy every Remedy game on release without really enjoying anything about their visual aesthetic, narrative style or sense of humor. Which would be understandable if they were just playing the AAA shooter du jour but it's a Remedy game, you should know what you're getting into.

The first game is fine, I enjoyed it enough back in the day but you could certainly get away with watching a Youtube synopsis instead of playing it.

Alan Wake 2's rather extreme system requirements probably didn't do it any favours. A huge number of people simply can't run it acceptably and even on my 3070 I had to play it at 1080p with most of the settings turned down (although to its credit, full-on path tracing was still on the table for the less active sections though). I think the accolades it received will give it a longer tail too. It might be one of those games that sees a bit of renewed interest every spooky season, in a way that the first Alan Wake never managed.
