The WWII stuff is hilarious but the kinda unsettling part is how relatively recent a lot of the bad history is. Like anyone who was alive during the Bush administration would realize how insane it is to claim that gay marriage was a frivolous issue that only rich liberals cared about (because Real Queers only care about nonmonogamous kinky sex). Well, I was one of the yokels who watched Somerton's content, but I never did see the sexy Nazi stuff. He had like fifty videos that were all long as heck; I didn't care about WWII, I just cared about TV shows and movies.  And all the drama on his Discord or Twitter? Hell if I ever knew about it.As for the rest of the bad opinions and outright misinformation...I can't speak for the other rubes, but you gotta remember that people saying weird poo poo on Youtube is actually the norm instead of the exception, and then double that amount when it comes to The Discourse, and then triple that amount when it comes to LGBTQ+ discourse specifically. Like, a lot of the other queer content creators that Hbomb also recommends? Believe it or not, some of them also say some dumb poo poo from time to time, it's just that the dumb poo poo is nominally negligible compared to their good insightful takes. It was annoying when Somerton brushed off gay marriage and acted nasty about Love Simon or whatever, but it didn't make him seem like a plagiarist or even an idiot; it just made him seem like another one of those hundreds of baby socialists on the internet who got their rocks off by pointing at a mainstream thing and going "But what if it was secretly bad??" ...Well, okay, like an idiot then, I suppose.
