Salt Fish posted:The best lovely job I had was dishwasher. It's a obscenely stressful, but you can steal so much food. Plus its a legit craft and it feels great when you can wash 1000 dishes in an hour and make it look easy. You get cut and burnt a lot and that kinda sucks, but overall its not bad. I fondly remember one month when I was super poor 100% of my calories were stolen from the restaurant. $0 food bill but I had to work 7 days a week. Idk, it was okay.

Are there really no regulations on headlights in the US? What's stopping someone from mounting this on their car?

Maddest I’ve ever seen someone get was over joke underwear, dude’s face was bright red with veins popping out of his skull for hours, demanding very loudly “who bought this!” as he paced around shaking and agitated and even his friends were telling him to calm the gently caress down This was way back when I was in the army, and we had this dickhead nco who had been a ranger but got kicked out to the regular army for some reason or another (usually it’s dui that this happens for, but in his case it wasn’t and nobody was clear on the why) Anyway he was an absolute rear end in a top hat, just one of the worst people I’ve ever known, and I bought a pair of frilly black panties that had the ranger patch printed on them and left them as a gift for him, and he did not take it well, and I do not regret it

Xenon and then LED lamps have that cooler white light that is also very directional, so every bump in the road makes it look like someone is flashing you for something. I’m kinda glad my current car has rear tinted glass and electrochromic rear view given how awful these lights can be. And my car also has LED dipped beams, though halogen main beams for some reason. Oh, a worse thing? People who don’t turn their lights on at all in fog because modern tech makes them not even realise they’re not auto in such a way.

Dollar General's laser focus on areas that are either extremely poor or in terminal decline (or both) is equal parts horrifying and fascinating. It's like the chain store equivalent of a payday loan place opening up next door.

If you see a committee of DG's opening up in your area, you should buy some gold. don't buy gold idiot.

Morbus posted:There are a lot of reasons for this, but part of it has to do with the way the currently popular image generators work. The short version is that image generation is computationally very expensive, so the generative work is basically done at extremely low resolution and then upscaled. This inherently produces "smooth" images. good post. but also low key annoyed at "hallucinating" when "confabulating" is much more apt.

Best poo poo job I had was as an orderly ("mental health worker") at a state psychiatric hospital on the 3-11pm shift. My ward was essentially the craziest of the crazy, they'd never leave, and it was their forever home - Austin State Hospital. Job was essentially to keep order, make sure they didn't hurt themselves or each other, keep the place tidy and sit with them in a dayroom and try to keep them occupied. They were all batshit crazy, but the longer you worked there and got used to the craziness, they more "normal" it all was and you began to see them as people with personalities, intelligence and humor. The real good part was after "lights out" you could study and do class work and chow down on free hospital food.

That's what I'm doing now after leaving my hospital job and that's been my experience too. To be honest, I see more mental illness in my co-workers than I do the patients. Also we have a master-level chess player who I just stopped playing against at this point because I figured out he just toys with me at the start to make me feel less bad when he eventually trounces me. It’s time to get everyone back to the office — and it may not be for the reason you'd think (no paywall amp link). Fake spoiler: they're the same old tired arguments with a twistquote:Last week, wearing nice clothes and excited to finally hang out in person with her new colleagues, my daughter baked some cookies to surprise her friends. But when she arrived at the office, no one was there. One was away, another said it was too cold to make it to the office, and a few others didn’t bother to explain why they didn’t show up. lol, everyone is isolated because they're not doing costumed potlucks at work. gently caress off. quote:Moreover, I’d bet that apart from the most disciplined workers, working from home makes us all less efficient since distractions from social media, text messages, private emails and more are much more tempting when no one is around. Yeah sure nobody is ever distracted at the office thanks to the company panopticon. quote:Amir Barnea is an associate professor of finance at HEC Montréal and a freelance contributing columnist for the Star.
