Anyway there were a few parts I thought were genuinely cool and good. The imperium soldiers themselves are really great. I liked the little brain bug alien that speaks through a human corpse. It's a really cool practical effect, with a real gross puppet, and the guy who plays the corpse does a perfect job of playing a talking corpse. I liked that the 40k commissar has a space hookah that he plugs directly into his lungs, along with a black tentacle hentai monster that he keeps in his room to work his holes. I also thought the scene at the end where they plug him full of internet juice so he can float in a bubble and talk to General Belisarius was conceptually and visually neat.

I wish all of these parts were in a better movie.

yeah the most disappointing thing about the movie is that there's bits where exceptional craft peeks through. all those bits were good. I also thought the spider lady was well done, it was a good mix of practical and digital that often gets fumbled

The special effects for the weapons are pretty good. The bolter guns they use look like they shoot real bolts of energy with mass and heat, not just laser lights. When they do show them scoring burns on the things they hit it's a good effect. That still makes it even weirder how the barn scene was bloodless by comparison.

it makes total sense given the material he adapts.

what i dont get exactly is why he/his movies are popularly connected to toxic masculinity. sucker punch costume designs + the comic book guy fans he carries due to making comic book movies?

I watched this movie "rare exports" from Finland (2010). part Finnish part English

quote:

A young boy named Pietari (Onni Tommila) and his friend Juuso (Ilmari Järvenpää) think a secret mountain drilling project near their home in northern Finland has uncovered the tomb of Santa Claus. However, this a monstrous, evil Santa, much unlike the cheery St. Nick of legend. When Pietari's father (Jorma Tommila) captures a feral old man (Peeter Jakobi) in his wolf trap, the man may hold the key to why reindeer are being slaughtered and children are disappearing.

it was pretty fun, a bit like the thing. if you want a violent funny holiday movie it's a decent choice.

The material he adapts would have bestowed comic book guys to literally anybody who helmed the series he did. Theres nothing special about him other than his education.

That movie loving rules

I was going to do a double showing of that and https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadly_Games_(1989_film) at a friend's place but, I caught a cold, I highly recommend checking out Deadly Games if you like weird violent christmas movies, the first half feels like a kid's movie and then it takes a turn...

I also like Day of the Beast (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_of_the_Beast) but, the violence can get pretty intense in a non-comedic at times just as a heads up.

It is weird and dumb. The deal was Netflix would finance Snyder's huge R rated epic fantasy movie if they got it split into two movies and also each of those halves had a sanitized tween cut that was only 2 hrs

I don't know why you would want to bother to produce the second if you were down with the first but I guess they've got some persuasive number-crunchers at hq

my point was that the majority of the characters are so poorly fleshed out that I couldn't determine if they're unlikeable or not. the main nazi bad guy is unlikeable but he's very effective in the movie and turns in a good performance; he's one of (arguably) two characters I feel like know well enough to have any opinion about

go look at my post history. I am a Zach Snyder... if not an apologist or fanboy, at least a sympathizer. MoS is the best superhero movie of the new millennium imo, and I enjoyed BvS more than almost any MCU movie. probably Ragnarok and Winter Doldier and Civil War I like more than BvS. but my god has he fallen off since he failed his daughter. jk. I know he didn’t fail her, but I'm sure he feels like he did.

Has he at least got rid of the horrible lense from that zombie film? Ive heard mixed things.
The zombie film was nearly unwatchable, I remember the movie was set in Vegas but you can't see any of the sets they presumably built just blurry slot machines in the background somewhere.
In one scene the chars are discussing the zombies or plot or whatever and characters are going in and out of focus as theyr talking, it's awful.

Such a weird decision for a director who has like 2 strengths, earnestness and visuals

The dialogue around Snyder is wild to me because his actual product is the most generic mid-2000s action imaginable, it's like discussing the merits of a shade of beige
