Not fully done with Santa boxes this year yet but pretty drat happy with this haul so far (around 30 Megas opened and 20 normal - still have 12 Bigs waiting). Especially Odin since I missed that dockyard. London Mutsu Boise Hood Odin S-189 Almt Grante

I haven't bought any boxes since I'm not going to spend money on this game very easily, but I've opened something like 30 of different sizes from all sources, and the only bote I got was some T6 English DD. Not much point in buying any boxes when there's several dog poo poo T6s and T7s I don't have yet, and I would 100% get all of those before a single usable higher tier bote.

Has anyone played the Bungo? Is it any good? I've grinded up to the Adatara in asymmetric, and the thing sure as gently caress doesn't feel great. It's decently accurate with the spotter plane up, but catastrophically bad without it. Also, despite claiming to be 457mm guns, the main guns sure as gently caress don't hit like it. They don't feel like they can citadel BBs reliably at any range, and mostly just overpen cruisers from any angle and any distance. I've already got a Vermont for accurate 457mm shenanigans, and also a Yamato (and a Musashi) so I'm kinda starting to question if I want to even prioritize the Bungo. I guess I can unlock it at some point because why not, but unless it's a lot better than the Adatara I don't see much point in the thing. It has a very high average winrate and damage on wows-numbers.com (the highest of all T10 battleships, in fact), but it also has a very small amount of games so those numbers might not be very accurate. E: I also have an Ohio.

Russian Richelieu is ok. I'm not sure why 2/3 Des Moines exists, but whatever, much better than what I got last year. Should end up with another mega or two by the end but not much more I think. Getting a fifth of a mega per tier 10 instead of a mega per tier 10 as in the last few variations on this event was something of a downgrade.

The thing about Japanese "accuracy" is the vertical dispersion - it's a lot worse than other nations. And if you want to see just how comically bad it can be even at high tiers, try the dockyard Hizen BB. With the spotter up on the BCs, the dispersion is really good overall but the vertical dispersion is barely mediocre. With it down its the usual IJN shotgun.

Yep, that sounds about right, the vertical dispersion is what kills the boat. With the Adatara you can't reliably hit a static broadside on BB from 5 km out.

I've only played a few Bungo games, it's a lot more comfortable to play than the Adatara mainly because you've got more guns. I'm not sure about it yet, I found it interesting that a few CC's like PQ initially hated the thing but now love it so maybe it'll click with me. It it exceptional at sniping CV's. I've 100-0 devstruck a pair already, so for that alone it's a pretty okay boat. Being able to get a few hyper accurate salvos out on them compared to a Vermont's single shot helps. The guns are very all or nothing which can be annoying, it feels like playing a Slava which... not very exciting. If you're up against players with brains it really lacks alpha. I love brick/Vermont gaming, especially with the improved heals now, and find it way more reliable and satisfying than the Bungo. That's probably a little bit unfair of a comp because Vermont is amazing.

Bought 0 crates this year, just took the ones offered by certificates and daily stuff. Snagged a TX Brisbane in the last one, so mission accomplished I guess.

Yeah, I've been expecting the same thing to happen to me with the Adatara but I'm about 20k short of the Bungo and still constantly thinking the Izumo felt a lot better to play. Then again I didn't bother buying the spotting plane equipment for this thing, and I guess that (and maybe speccing for spotting planes?) makes the Bungo a lot better since you can get more than two shots out of each spotter plane. But the armour is awful, the guns are unreliable and the thing isn't as fast or maneuverable as other BCs so it's kinda all or nothing on the guns. And at least on the Adatara the guns aren't nearly good enough.

Izumo used to have the world's worst vertical dispersion too until they buffed it about 10 patches in a row a few years ago

This is a pretty random observation for WoWs in 2024, but Odin is hot garbage right? I got one out of a Santa crate having missed the dockyard and I am really struggling to see the point of it.

It's a pretty good ship against its own tier, and it definitely is much better against cruisers than it is other battleships. I found that it's kind of niche, best suited for brawls or ranked games where there's fewer ships and a narrower spread of tiers. In randoms, though, it's not that good.

Figured I'd try Randoms again after a while. Jumped in my Tromp, first game enemy team had a U-2501/U-4501/Nakhimov division. There was literally absolutely nothing I could do. The Nakhimov just kept me spotted, and the two sub shitheads could just swarm me with pings and torpedoes. Wonder why the game's dying?

The German BC line pretty much rendered it obsolete afaict, unless they don't get hydro? Maybe they don't get hydro, I forget.

Anyone still playing this game? I recently reinstalled after like 8 years to try out the subs. Meh. Especially with the recent changes, I'm not sure if I like them very much. But it does lead to some satisfying griefing opportunities. I just got the Z-31 which apparently is considered to be one of the worst T7 ships in the game. I think I actually like it though? It's fast and the guns are really accurate so as long as you can aim well then it's great for kiting. I learned the hard way that it's pretty awful at knife fighting other DDs, but you sometimes have an advantage at mid-long ranges, depending on your aim and their ability to dodge. The torpedoes suck but your guns mean you can still be a menace to cruisers and be able to farm a meaningful amount of damage from BBs.

I started playing it again back in 2020 but have just "soft-quit" about 3 weeks ago. I didn't ragequit, log out, delete the game or anything but I just don't get any fun out of it anymore. Basically how I felt in around 2018 when I first quit before coming back 2 years later. The impending sub and CV changes just looked to much hassle to try and be bothered with. I don't know how meaningful they are in game, but I suspect I won't be back playing regular for a few years if ever.

Same. I occasionally log in and play a few rounds, but the game as it is these days is just not enjoyable. Constant CV and sub spam, pubbies more awful than humanly thought possible and the games are passive camp fests. The only fun I've had in a few years was with the Halloween event and the asynchronous mode they put in for one patch. Oh, and the blimp escort mode. That was kinda fun!

So hey remember how people have been suggesting fixing CVs by making them minimap spotting only, but WG refused because "it was too confusing for players"? Well here's their elegant and easily understandable solution to CVs. quote:

It’s pretty easy? Planes in travel altitude don’t spot anything, can use engine boost the whole time. Planes in attack mode will spot ships on the surface, but drain engine boost. Ships will see planes in travel mode, and DFAA will be able to shoot them at travel altitude. It’s really not that complicated.

The main thing I hate about CVs is that I have to rely on passive AA to shoot down their planes. IIRC in that knockoff game Steel Ocean you could manually control your DP AA guns, it was nice, especially with an Atlanta.

They will never implement it though because the WoWs playerbase thinks manual control of ASW is already too complicated somehow when it's literally just pushing 1 or 2 buttons. Speaking of ASW and subs, I have started to appreciate the recent changes more. They're still not great but it's a lot better as a DD player to be able to charge down a sub and drop depth charges without having to deal with point blank torpedo barrages every 30 sec like Neo in the Matrix. It's still dangerous if you're low on HP or under fire from surface ships but at least they have a reason to fear and hide from DDs now.
