I rarely listen to the English dubs, but I decided to give the one on DiD. Really impressed with it actually. Think I'll stick with English on this one.

Apparently the English VA for Marcille is the actress who played Nami in the live-action One Piece. I thought she did a pretty good job for a newer dub VA! But yeah, very good casting all around. I like SungWon Cho and Casey Mongillo in general, but they were in top form here.

Delicious in Dungeon makes sense. The other members are hesitant, but i think other than riches, one of the first things humans would do about exploring a dungeon filled with monsters is trying to eat everything and see if its tasty. there's plenty of isekais where humans consume orc meat and they treat it as like regular pork.

I watched the dungeon meshi sub but decided to watch the english dub because of the cast. It’s so good. They adapted the script to let the conversation flow more smoothly and I really love the “well, a duck isn’t going to walk by with a green onion” joke.

So I wasn't going crazy catching a bunch of Pokémon references in the episode, then, only for me to miss the Farfetch'd joke.

Perhaps but when I'm hearing Pokeball sound effects in the show and Laios's book has a picture of a Rattata in it I'm starting to sense a trend.

I copied the jp subtitles with google lens and got “カモがネギをしょ来ることなんてないんだよ” which machine translation means “Ducks never bring green onions”. But the official netflix subs just translate it to “There’s no such thing as a free lunch”. I can see why professional subbers would go one way or the other. But the english dub made it sound good even without Endorph’s helpful context.

I'm surprised that the English subtitles for the Japanese audio track are different than the English audio subtitles and closed captioning. I thought Netflix usually just threw the English script subs over the Japanese audio rather than make a dedicated original audio sub.

I gave Instant Death Ability a watch and my verdict is a tentative "meh." I've read and liked the manga, but I didn't see much to indicate that the anime is going to be a particularly good adaptation. Granted, the start of the story is probably the worst bit. I'll give the next couple of episodes a shot and see if it gets better.

Mato Seihei 01 was pretty good. Good mix of action and music, and I do like the characters and monster designs with smart use of CGI. I like that it goes into the action right away. Literally just like 15 minutes straight action. It is just the first episode so it has to try to hook you, but its doing a good job of that. Has some decent budget and production values. Wonder if they plan to change the story around or not. I know totally different studio and it was a long time ago, but was surprised at how different they decided to steer things in the Akame ga Kill anime when I looked into it.

Yeah, one of the things that made the Eminence in Shadow ultimately pop was that it was actually an adaptation rather than a video transcription, and it emphasized different things or presented them in a different order to help make the points it wanted to make. It's soured me a little on the more transcriptiony kind of stuff, even if the source is good and being faithfully followed. Like, no joke, some of my favorite parts of Instant Death Ability are when it's not about some weird wizard's grindhouse horror death game but instead about the MC's past as a young anomaly growing up in the FBC and finding himself crossing over with other horror movies as the various occult factions make more or less informed plays for the power of oblivion. I don't know how you'd get across "this is a horror movie crossover and it's not even the MC's first" without totally blowing the lid off the mystery, but it's also kind of the main selling point here. Ultimately thinking about this made me also want to catch up on Gori-Sen: The Type Of PE Teacher To Die First During A Panic, and find out it recently concluded, as much as a gag manga can conclude.

Captain Invictus posted:gori-sen ended relatively well, not an amazing ending but overall it's fine, and the rest of the series is fantastic Oh yeah, I'm not saying it was bad, and it wrapped pretty much everything up that it left hanging, it's more that most gag manga don't generally have an underlying driving tension to wrap up and "say goodbye" more than they actually end. Even now we must imagine Gori-Sen patrolling the halls, telling some pollution elemental they can't smoke on school grounds, tucking it under his arm, dragging it bewilderingly to the taps, and being surprised when it washes completely away. GateOfD posted:Frieren Friday is back. I had a look at Unwanted Undead and it was okay. It seems to be a pretty typical "human is reborn as a weak monster in a dungeon and in order to survive he has to kill other monsters so he can evolve and grow stronger" story, except it's not an isekai but a standard low fantasy. So far it doesn't even really have any videogame status pages or hitpoint increases or any of that stuff, the power ups are shown via actions rather than through lists of stats I'll also be checking out The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic today
