I cut my thumb pretty deep yesterday cutting potatoes up. It bled pretty bad but stopped pretty soon after applying pressure with gauze. Kind of surprised how well it healed up! In the end, probably was a clean cut because I just recently sharpened my knife?

Also, Solmania is playing on the 21st. I should get off my lazy old man rear end and see a show.

Lol like my second time using a mandolin a sliced this real deep cut of my thumb off, not cool. And so I dealt with it as it was bleeding, and when I came back I couldn't find the hunk of skin I cut off amongst all the potatoes. So I just cooked it up and that's the story of the day I ate part of my thumb.

I never used the mandolin again.

Hmm, it wasn't a huge cut, but so effective. I think it may have sliced off my fingerprint.

I will have to test.

Not here but I think that reference would be lost here. Thankfully, not a huge amount of Van Halen fans.

I’ll say that’s fair, although I’ve always been slightly annoyed when they’re labeled as a hair metal band. Yes, aesthetics and general music styling and all that, but the big difference is Van Halen basically was that way from the day they were playing backyard parties and most of it came naturally. All the other, unequivocally labeled hair bands (A lot of which followed them from the Southern California club scene) pretty intentionally copied everything Van Halen had done, but ratcheted everything up by 1000%, usually in the wrong ways. They’d go for bigger hair and more onstage theatrics and silly poses and crazier videos, but their music was usually nowhere near a good and their band members were rarely as naturally talented as DLR (Who while never the greatest singer was an amazing frontman at his peak) or EVH (God).

Panama is like the third best song on 1984.

Oh yeah, I can totally get being sick of Panama or Jump or the other stuff that’s been classic rock staples for 40~ years at this point. Their best stuff is album cuts.

The Sammy stuff takes a bit more getting used to, but I will say they were amazing live with him:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8GLxjSAeDE

The entire Live Without a Net concert film from the 5150 tour in 1986 is basically my go to pick me up when I’m down, because it’s basically them at the height of their power, putting on a crazy emergency and fun show where they’re all happy, and it’s hard not to smile and enjoy it.

Van Halen birthday overlap:
When I was a tiny babby my cool aunt got me Women And Children First on vinyl for my birthday. It was my first record I actually owned, everything else was my folks or older siblings. I had never even heard of Van Halen. It came with a poster of DLR shirtless and handcuffed(?) in front of a chain link fence.
