Excellent! I'm gonna try cooking a NY strip in a cast iron pan at 11pm soon. I'm hosed up so I'm glad it was on sale. Potato has been in the toaster oven for almost an hour.

Then during the 90s growers started breeding them to be less bitter. And thanks in part to the rise of shows like America's Test Kitchen and Good Eats, people learned to actually cook them to the right level of done-ness. https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2019/10/30/773457637/from-culinary-dud-to-stud-how-dutch-plant-breeders-built-our-brussels-sprouts-bo

Had a fun night with GBS goons playing Jackbox and had a huge craving for EGG and realized that I bought bacon for the first time in maybe 5 years because it was BOGO. It was good. Yes, I had 5 pieces of bacon myself. The first egg I opened had TWO yolks! I'm getting way better at over easy eggs now.

pro starcraft loser posted:How did the soup turn out? it was okay. if i got it from a restaurant, I'd have been satisfied but a little disappointed. i think the onions got too hot early on and so the sweetness didn't materialize as I'd hoped. the gouda buoyed it well, but didn't entirely elevate it. I'll give it another go before long

4 cheap boneless thighs, spent 5 min this morning boning them (lol) and making stock with the bones a half-onion and some cheap celery and carrots. When I got home I made his hiananese chicken rice with cheap garlic, ginger, shallots, rice, and the stock, and because I’m fancy lad I added half a terrible tomato I had and a cheap cuke and some of a $2 bottle of sesame oil and some dollar store plantain chips. Oh yeah, two sauces, one of which required a $.25 red jalapeño, half a lime and a squirt of vinegar to the above, plus I guess salt, sugar, chicken stock powder, 3/$ scallions, 2/$ cilantro, and water figured in and I didn’t mention it. Oh yeah, i broke the hiananese chicken tradition because I hit the skin with my plumbing blowtorch to make it crispy.
