I want less buttons, not more. As stated previously I thought the action button was a cool idea but it ended up not having much use for me. I'd be happier if the button and the switch it replaced disappeared and never came back.

I guess physical buttons for volume is still pretty mandatory but I've love if they could come up with a clever way to quickly adjust the volume from the touch screen.

Also put the power button back on the top.

They’re supposedly making the Action button capacitive and across the lineup for the iPhone 16 later this year, maybe that will make it a little more customizable and useful?

They’re also supposedly adding a “Capture” button to the 16 Pro on the right bottom side, which will be used for taking pictures or video. I think that’ll be pretty useful - it will be placed in the most user friendly spot when taking photos.

The last rumor is the screen sizes are going from 6.1” to 6.3” and 6.7” to 6.9” for the Max. I’m still mulling over whether or not I want to upgrade to a Max later this year, but if the smaller Pro has the improved telephoto lense the Max only got this year, I may just stick with a non-Max. I’ve messed around with a friends 15 Pro Max and it didn’t feel that much bigger in my hand, but I also had an XS Max at one point and hated how often that thing fell out of my pockets.

I refuse to believe they're putting a button on the bottom right of the phone.

Honestly on the regular sized pro I take a lot more photos with the action button set to camera mode, and I’m happy with how it makes photography feel a little more tactile . For whatever reason using the volume keys on previous models confused my brain and I’d always get in a muddle over what to press. I can see how it’s feel awkward on the max size phones though.

It was such a good switch. Felt so good. Nothing has a good clunky switch anymore.

Being able to reach into your pocket and feel with your finger that your phone was on silent without having to actually take it out and look at it was huge for me and I know I'm not alone. I feel like they underestimated the value of a toggle switch.

This is a stupid question and I don’t know if this is the right lace for it. I just transferred everything from my old iPhone 7 to my new 15 pro, but the SIM won’t transfer, maybe because iOS 16 is required. What do I do? Do I have to contact my carrier?

The secret to not being worried if your phone is on silent is to leave it on silent 100% of the time.

I have mine set as to open the camera and never use it since there's a nice on-screen button for that that works well.

So I guess Apple is making bank deposits for batterygate? I got $92 in my checking account today and it appears others on Reddit are reporting the same. I have no idea how they got my bank info, but I’ll take the money I guess.

That's unusual. I've received checks in the mail from their previous settlements. As for how they got the info..do you have a debit card on file with Apple?

I dunno, I’m pretty sure it was years ago. I barely remember filing a claim.

Nope, never. Only credit cards. It seems really odd but I’ll take $92.

The battery gate thing was several years ago so if you haven't already submitted the info, that window is almost certainly closed and you're out of luck.

I checked my inbox and I have another settlement thing for a suit regarding Family Sharing. I checked and it's legit. On the form they have for payment you can ask for a check or ACH. So I guess that is a thing. Still not sure how you'd have received that payment without giving them the routing info though.

This is obvious and I should have just done it instead of posting, but if this happens to anyone else, I went to the store and they activated my sim. Had nothing to do with me transferring from a physical SIM card, other than that I couldn’t activate it myself, as the store had hosed it up the first time.

I just Googled and they say they expect distributions in January 2024. I checked my email and I did submit a claim for digital payment.

Fake edit: just checked my checking account and there’s a $92.17 deposit pending. :woop:

Can someone give me some tips for Shortcuts? Specifically, what to call them in order to be able to ask Siri to execute them.

I have a shortcut that plays a playlist on shuffle. Works fine if I execute it manually.

If I call it something like "My Music" or "Shuffle Playlist", Siri will try to play random stuff from my library.
Other names I've tried, it will play random stuff from Apple Music.
I thought I would be clever and named it an acronym, but when I asked Siri it looked up the stock ticker. :owned:

I've tried various things like "Run Shortcut Foo" and that doesn't seem to work either. It often tells me to unlock my phone which defeats the purpose!

What can I call this shortcut that will allow me to run it reliably?

You just invoke Siri and say the shortcut name. “Siri chill kitchen” sets my kitchen lights to like 30% and some other stuff, for instance. You’ve gotta name it something that doesn’t confuse Siri or you.

And about 5% of the time Siri will just not execute the Shortcut. For my comings and goings from Home, I have "I’m leaving" and "I’m home" shortcuts. My favorite is when I tell her "I’m home" and instead of getting the bong that she executed the shortcut she gives me some quip like "welcome home!!!"
