The person who rated that five stars also recently liked Puss n' Boots and Elemental and that's just great. If that's not just straight up porn might watch it.

I don't know how I feel about each individual episode of Black Mirror being on Letterboxd. They are basically short movies, but it does feel kind of like cheating. When they do finally add tv shows full on to the platform, hope there's some distinction between stuff like it and "Family Guy episode 4".

IMO they should break shows down into entries for each season and not go any further. The thing I'm most interested in is seeing if this shakes up the usual television discourse. Seeing what in the classic canon of shows gets reappraised, and what odd things end up getting a second life (or even just a first look).

if and when they add tv i hope they put some interesting consideration into how the top 4 works. i would still prefer to see only movies in that place on someone's profile. maybe add a separate top 4 for shows or just another spot for your favorite show? and if they put shows there at all should it be the entire series or single seasons? like i would maybe put true detective season 1 in my "top shows" spot, but i wouldn't if it was limited to the entire series, which i haven't seen anything other than s1. on the other hand it would be weird seeing someone with, for instance, three seasons of the simpsons and one season of dexter or whatever in a top shows list on their profile. if i were working at lb and was forced to include tv, i agree by season makes most sense, but i would leave them out of being able to be added to top 4 altogether

I do not want to track TV by the episode. It's already got a lot of nonsense that is crossover stuff, like any short series documentary. I just really don't want go to what my friends are up to and see "Family Guy S04E18".

tbf if your friends are logging each individual episode of Family Guy it might be time for an intervention

Separating the tv and film stuff seems like it defeats the purpose. For me the appeal is that I can have one shared watchlist and integrated challenge/season lists that more fully and accurately reflect what I watched. That seems fun to me. But having a second app or sectioned off stuff just seems like more clutter I’m unlikely to bother with any more than I do the other options people have told me for tracking my shows. I also, I dunno, don’t care what other people log. I mean I like reading reviews and following some users and seeing what my friends are watching but there’s tons of Letterboxd users who already log stuff and review stuff in a totally different way than me or my sensibility. I don’t see how tv will change that.

I’d be happy if they would just clean up the reviews that are written about a TV show, then posted under the listing for a movie with the same name. So loving sloppy.

Eh. If you start editorializing peoples reviews that feels like a door you don’t wanna open. But again I guess I’m a bit different in that I accept there’s already a ton of reviews and reviewers who don’t interest or even annoy me and I’m content to just ignore them. I’m also guilty of sometimes reviewing a show under a Letterboxd listing but I only do that with like show specials or something. Not just random movies that share a name. But so I’m probably part of the problem.

I'm fine with TV being on Letterboxd, it should just be done by seasons as opposed to a single page for an entire series IMO (And obviously logging individual episodes for Letterboxd's current format is just madness). Maybe that's just a bias that comes from growing up in era of the "DVD boxset", people lending boxsets out to hook their friends on shows etc., but that what I think of as the primary uh, unit I guess of TV shows. Especially for cases like True Detective or a reality show like Survivor that are kind of an anthology thing with each season more or less being a self contained story with beginning, middle, and end.

If they are smart they will give an option to rate TV-series by season, and add granularity to rate by episode for the freaks who care about it. Make it a feature for paying customers. Until letterboxd adds a mute/hide button for movies and lists and users then I would rather not have tv. Lists are already useless when you can’t hide all the “every movie ever made, sorted by color” ones that appear under everything

If you want to block a list, go to the creators profile and block them. The list never shows up and it makes the "This movie is in these lists" section function if you do it enough. I never have to see "A list of every movie ever" show up again.

letterboxd app update lets you tap on a little "people" icon to flip between average rating across all users and just your friend list unfortunately there is no option to sort any list of movies by your friend's scores, which would be neat. but the feature itself is still a nice little addition. btw it's for paid accounts only

Didn't learn this til a couple months ago, but Letterboxd is fan-loving-tastic when it comes to telling you where a movie is streaming. Turns out you can edit your profile to select 'favorite services' (i.e. ones you pay for) and can then filter your Watchlist by those favorites. Makes it super easy to filter out stuff that isn't out yet or costs a buck. Also helps id when something is both available on Youtube or Amazon for $$$, but might also be on Peacock or Tubi for free.

But it’s also good at showing at depressingly limited the streaming options are compared to the whole landscape you used to be able to get at a video store. Thankfully we still have libraries with DVDs or I’d probably lose it
