I mean, AW1 was very front and center with "We've read Stephen King and watched Twin Peaks and we want you to know that", I wouldn't have put it past them.

I had to copy my saves over but it wasn't hard, so I picked up with the DLC on Epic.

I really like how they seem to have realized "hey, we gave our protagonist flight powers halfway through the game, that's a license to do fun stuff with verticality" this time, actually being expected to fly around move from level to level is pretty neat. And the story is quite interesting with the Astral Plane bleed and Former and the Board using me to have some sort of snitfit-by-proxy (and I love Jesse's philosophy of "I don't care if we did have a life-and-death battle before, he gave me extra superpowers so we're cool now, you two work it out"). But I do find it hard to believe at this point that it's going to provide any resolution on any of the stuff that annoyed me about the ending, as Darling and Dylan aren't in this at all and the Hiss have only rated a "oh, they're here too" mention to handwave why there's dudes to shoot.

Just tell me that AW2's ending isn't going to be a frustrating anticlimax too, I guess. Also, "Just visiting an alternate dimension" or "DON'T TOUCH MY SAND" would both be good thread titles.

If you're looking for boring, purely plot based resolutions? Then yes, it's an anticlimax. If you're looking for something that's thematically cool as poo poo and enhances the game's entire vibe and retroactively complicates the entire experience causing you to look at it from a completely different angle? Then no.

It's a great ending.

I just finished the old age home and I was in the forest and two throwers made very short work of me, they're so tough! They throw twice fast, and reposition. if you carry on moving and dodging it still doesn't work because they're throwing from behind you or whatever and it's hard to know how to dodge. I tried throwing a flare at one and I dropped it because the guy hit me with an axe right after I lit it.

I highly highly recommend saving up enough manuscript pieces to get the rifle Darkness Shield Penetration upgrade. It lets you trivialize the throwers and is a massive boon.

Finished NG+ on Nightmare, loved the twists, loved seeing old friends again, and when I go back to get the rest of the trophies I missed I’m absolutely doing it on Story mode.

A couple of semi random thoughts on the ending/new stuff:
- I’m pretty sure the “hero” is Alice Wake
- Mr. Door is definitely Saga’s dad
- I really hope something awesome comes out of the Zane/Darling teamup

In any event, A+++ would gladly get stuck in the <SPIRAL/LOOP> again.

I gotta say, Foundation ended up not doing much for me, story-wise. It was of a piece with the main game in that it introduced a lot of neat ideas, started building up to something interesting, and then just stopped midway through. All that stuff with Former apparently maybe not being such a bad dude, and wanting something, and the Board maybe not being as benevolent as they come across, and Former and the Board maybe feuding or maybe working towards the same goal with different methods, and why it got kicked off the Board (probably), and Jesse starting to lose faith in the Board and what might happen if they notice that? You put four maguffins back together and stopped the most immediate threat, we're done here, no resolution.

Then again, I started doing Ahti's sidequests in AWE, got killed by a mold room, looked up what I'm supposed to do about that poo poo, and apparently I missed several whole-rear end sidequests and a traversal ability while I was playing the main game (so now I'm back in the main FBC to do that stuff), so maybe I missed the important stuff again here.

I want to do some backtracking with Saga because after cauldron lake I only found a couple of the lunchbox stashes, and now that I have the bolt cutters I can open a few more places. I'm realising though that since I've opened all of the cult stashes, I won't have a new source of ammo or healing so I'll be running lower and lower on ammo etc. Is there any way around this issue? I'd probably be using less ammo if I were on mouse and keyboard, but I'm on gamepad and I miss a LOT of the shots.

The reason I think my interpretation carries weight is when Saga and Alan were the heroes during the first loop, it didn’t work. Alan died, Saga lost her daughter, and neither of their sacrifices saved the rest of the characters. It’s only when Alan had the spark of light from Alice that they were able to close the loop, and she died for it, sacrificing herself to save everyone.

Also, in what’s pretty much a direct response to Saga making the same complaint about the genre, Alice’s actions do kind of shift the genre into a love story.

Tried googling this but wasn't able to find a definitive answer... can anyone here help answer this for me?

I am trying to get the platinum trophy, and I missed one of the collectibles in my first playthrough (specifically the "Adventure Tours" Koskela brothers commercial in Return 1). Does anyone know if your save file carries collectibles from your NG run into NG+? In other words, if I start NG+ to grab the commercial, will the trophy pop, or do I have to play through all of NG+ to watch all 6 commercials again?

Coming back to this in case anyone else finds themselves in the same situation...

It turns out that I didn't need to do another full playthrough. I was able to complete the game with 5/6 collectibles on one save, then go back to an earlier manual save to grab the 6th collectible. It seems the collectible tracking is done at the PSN account level, rather than at the in-game save level. That saved me a lot of time!

Made it through We Sing, I also feel the combat appearing kinda slows the section down and robs some momentum from the experience on Normal. It’s pretty small in the grand scheme of things but it’s the first time dying in this game a few times truly frustrated me and I had to put it down for a few days.

It is such a well conceived and executed segment though, worth it.

thebardyspoon

I could see a hypothetical Control 2 having a layout like Demons Souls or some of those older PS2 era adventure games, you'd have the Oldest House as your hub where story developments and upgrades happen, you have your scientist buddy you can talk to and that kinda thing. Then you're striking out around the world to various hot spots where the main plot stuff is happening and those are a mix of more linear spaces and some semi open investigative stuff like they've done in Alan Wake 2.

They've also left themselves a lot of road with the Oldest House anyway, since it can change, you could very easily justify almost anything showing up around a corner if they wanted to have gameplay taking place there, just by saying "oh some weird poo poo is affecting the Oldest House".

Still going through 2 after just finishing Remastered. I do remember seeing some people saying they prefer 1 but in terms of gameplay I think 1 was bang average honestly, it was a neat concept but it runs it's course by halfway through the game and then offers nothing new till the end. The main appeal by the end of it is the setting and story.

While in 2 I do think the game loop is a lot better and more varied. You aren't just constantly fighting takens and it makes sense because you would have killed the whole town if you had the amount of encounters like 1. I know in 1 they had the excuse oh there sure is a lot of campers missing recently but it just felt like a plot device. Honestly I find this game scarier than the previous one so far, due to not always being able to tell when there will be encounters. The first had nonstop encounters so it wasn't reall surprising.

Also I am in chapter 4 and I am wondering what happend to Sarah and Barry. Maybe he didn't write them into the story. But wouldn't it make sense since they knew how to fight the dark presence?

All of them, no, but Control 2? Yes. They take time in the endings to both the base game and AWE to remind you that they're still locked in and the doors won't open until the Hiss is destroyed.

Anyway, between the fact that the Oldest House is a constantly-shifting building of infinite size, the Astral Plane, and the Oceanview Hotel and Casino (and if they don't do anything with the casino part of that name in C2, they're idiots), there's enough space for another game.
