It's cute but not enough of a spectacle over the fireworks show to replace it, but enough work logistically that it probably also can't run alongside it like the old projection show + Wishes. Also, it would never work in Florida as weather would have it grounded as often as not.

Can anybody weigh on Magic Key/Disney passes and are they worth the insane amount per person these days? I'm a socal resident < 1 hour from Disneyland and am weighing if it's a good idea. Probably starting at base SoCal resident key status but wanted to know about black out dates, etc. being an issue.

How often do you go, and when? It pays for itself in 5 visits max. 3 if you consider park hopper.

It's blocked out all weekends, most Fridays, and the entire months of June, July and December. The best time periods seem to be the 2nd to last week of August through September, and January through the first 3 weeks of March but you start losing Fridays mid-February.

We are a family of 6, and have had passes/keys for like a decade (except for the pandemic, of course) and we are letting our passes expire in February. We have a big bill with 6 passes, 5 second-highest and one highest pass for the free parking, and with the price increases, and the construction going on throughout 2024 and Haunted Mansion being down the bulk of the year, it just feels like a big year of transition in the parks so we are noping out. Also the loss of pin trading has been a bummer for my kids, they loved hunting those pin boards for goodies.

If you go often enough obviously it pays for itself, but you have to factor in stuff like cost of parking if you aren't getting the highest level tier, and stalking the reservation calendar to grab whatever days you should have available. Our strategy is to rope drop on Sundays and ride as many top-tier rides as possible before the crowds swell around 10am, then we snack and do random stuff and bail around noon to be lazy at home for the rest of the day. It works for us and Sundays are usually available to us.

There are freebies and "exclusive" lounges and stuff, but by all accounts they aren't that great. Free stickers and buttons and stuff like that.

Aphrodite

The DLR offerings are way worse than Florida for the same relative tier for some reason.

The basic level pass has the same discount as the top tier one (and CMs), and free parking. Plus a lot fewer blockouts.

Awesome job with the marathon Anya! My friend who's local to Orlando keeps trying to convince me to do it with her, but that would put me at 18-20 mile training runs in New York in late November/December, which would suck. The Dopey sounds even cooler but I legit think I would die from lack of sleep. I'd love to do the Wine & Dine again though.

Florida travel question for y'all - I'm going to Tampa for work in late February, but since my job is paying for the plane ticket to get me down there, I'm thinking of doing a quick Disney trip the weekend prior. Probably 1-2 days at the parks and some resort & Disney Springs hopping. What's the best way to get between Tampa and Orlando that balances cost with convenience? Should I just rent a car? I also found this shuttle service (https://tampa2orlando.com/) between airports but a nice website doesn't mean poo poo about the actual service. I haven't decided yet whether to fly into MCO and out of Tampa or into/out of Tampa with a round-trip to Orlando in between (will probably depend on the different airfare options and what work will reimburse).

Also I literally did the Disney Princess half marathon without training…which meant I ran my local half with minimal training in November and then walked some laps at the park since then as my prep.

So, definitely a 7+ hour marathon, but there were tons of folks like me, just making it through. My friends chased me across the parks, suffered mile 7 being an unexpected downpour right before hitting MK, got some fun photos in the second half of the race, cried a million times from the joy of random people and signs cheering us on.

It was amazing. I want to do Dopey (every WDW marathon weekend race - 5k 10k half and full) now. And train better so I can hit some rides during the marathon.

The joy of saying congrats in tandem to everyone wearing a medal or race shirt today is unmatched.

Walked around Animal Kingdom all day today and took pics with my medal.

Hell yeah! Good job! I can definitely run a half but I'm always concerned about doubling that and somehow staying under 16 minute pace, but it really seems like it's probably manageable.

e: Ladies and gentlemen, the bear show has been put on hiatus for retooling. Closing 1/27 and reopening in the 'summer', which for Disney means uhh, late September?

My long term concern is aside from Fantasmic, Frozen Sing Along, and The Lion King, a lot of the sit down shows tend to be pretty empty (summer months excluded when the sun is trying to kill you). This is just anecdotal to me, but it does seem like guests don't seem to prioritize them. I'm genuinely curious now, so this may be a question for touring plans.

Say I Skyliner into Epcot for lunch. Then monorail over to MK for the evening to watch the fireworks.

Would I be able to monorail back to Epcot and get back on the Skyliner to get back to the Pop?

Considering Wishes ends at 8:30 and Epcot closes at 9, I know we won’t make it back to Epcot before park close. Considering that the Skyliner runs until 11 pm, though, would the castmembers allow us in to Epcot just long enough to walk over to the Skyliner?

My other was behind AK - posing with the goats and signs the CMs made. They were the best.

I scanned some marathon prep stuff, but the schedule of 3 runs Tuesday/ Wednesday/ Thursday and then scaling up to 5mi/10mi Wednesdays just didn’t work well with my schedule.

I actually looked at the Jeff Galloway Dopey schedule on runDisney, and it looks like a much better schedule for me - so I’ll think I’ll do that next time.

5k/10k - just enjoy yourself and have fun. Those look like the best courses with the most park time and the least amount of road time, which is delightful.

I’m never going to forget mile 22 though - World Drive loop into E Buena Vista Dr - that’s the spot that about took me down. Getting that chocolate as we entered next to Fantasmic and cutting down Sunset to be greeted by a thousand cheering folks was the bump I needed to finish.

I think I’ve talked 12 people into doing the marathon next year.

Also got caught in the tornado ground stop at MCO last night and ended up with a bonus night at AsMovies - hopefully this time everything gets me out in smoother manner today.

Thank you for the insight! I am trying not to get too in my own head about it. I haven't ran competitively in so long that I literally don't remember the feeling.

But there's stops along the way? I read where you need to maintain about a 16 minute mile pace to make sure you don't get escorted off the course. Would you agree with that?

In all seriousness, a 16 minute mile is basically power walking if you’re taller than 5’2. As long as you jog a little through the boring bits and have done a cardio sometime in the last month, you will have plenty of time for snack, selfie, and poo poo breaks.

So, you’ll be in corrals (we had A-F, your bib will show your corral number) and each corral ends up going in 3-5 waves, so they pulse runners out onto the course. The elites or fast runners had to submit their times to get in those A-B corrals. Everyone else just gave an estimate when they registered.

Full disclosure - I put myself in the fastest corral I could get into even though I’m not going to maintain that speed the entire course. I’ve done enough distance races (and did track in high school and college) so I can maintain for a little bit before slowing waaaay the gently caress down. I’m sure I’m not the only one who did that but many probably stuck with a reasonable finish time. I ended up in C, but averaged a 15:50 mile overall.

There are character stops up and down the course, and they are fast - so even if you see a line, this is a 3 second photo op and boom, you’re on to the next person’s pics. You’ll see more porta potties than you can count across all the courses, and there were so many water / Powerade combo stops. For the marathon - we had three food stops. 2 were bananas, 1 was Sport Beans. I packed a ton of clif blocks in my running pack and paced those every 3 miles.

The balloon ladies (the official last two folks - literally they wear balloons) are the sweepers. If you end up behind them for any reason, you’re gonna get swept off the course.

They say if you make it to the last mile inside the remaining park, you’re set - I know I finished 30 min before they did - and I saw them when I was finishing mile 20 and when I was halfway through mile 22 (was on the on ramp). Apparently they had gotten a little faster at 22, and actually got held back because they were moving too quick. There’s a whole train of support vehicles and golf carts to sweep - my friends watched a lot of folks get it at Magic Kingdom because they had to clear the park before early entry.

Speed wise - I alternating run/walk intervals up to mile 13, then I walked the last 13. Most people were doing the same thing at the back of the pack. Three bathroom breaks, 1 med tent break (grabbed some biofreeze), and 7 character stops for me. Plus any time I ate or drank, I did a slow walk so I wouldn’t choke.

Seven hours for a marathon? This is making me want to try the “four races in four days” thing (the Dopey?), just to be able to say I did it and for the experience of wandering through the parks in that manner. I’m sure by the end of day 3 I would be regretting the decision, but again: seven hours for a marathon, which is almost walking pace as previously stated.

I'm a multi-time marathoner, and I did Dopey in 2018.

The distance is not the biggest issue. It's the early wake-ups four straight days. Disney races start super early (depending on the race weekend, could be 5AM, 5:30AM, or 6AM), which requires a wake-up time of between 2AM and 3AM. For four straight days. While running a 5k/10k/half marathon/full marathon. If you don't go hard in the parks, and rest up, you can do it. If you take every race very easy, you can do it. We actually felt better after the full for Dopey than we did for the MCM/Chicago/NYC marathons because of how easy we took it all, but it still takes a toll.

When it comes to 'seven hours' that depends a bit. My suggestion would be to get a decent proof of time by running a solid 10k or half marathon so you aren't in the last corral. The 16 minute per mile pace is really for the balloon ladies, so if you're before them, you have more time to run; stay ahead of them and you won't get swept.

I generally submit the fastest time I don''t need proof for and for Springtime Surprise the last two years...

I was s3 ?? the first year which I think was the third corral and B last year. That gave me almost a buffer of an hour before the balloon ladies even left. It's 16 minutes per mile starting from when the last runner passes the start line, so if you manage an early wave in the second or third corral you've got a huge buffer to start with.

Hell, my MIL ended up in the first corral for the 5K last year.

I really need to start training for April. We're continuing our tour of never staying in the same resort twice with our first stay at Pop this year. I will gladly ride the skyliner for hours with my toddler.

You need to show them a bank statement or utility bill with the address on it. Credit card won't work.

So for a bank, it depends when your bank issues statements. Usually the final day of the month. Just make sure the change is done before then.

It's kind of a relic of a time when a bank statement was more concrete. With paperless billing and everything today I'm kind of surprised they still count it.

Yeah that's what I thought. I can add a mailing address to my banking account and have it sent to my cousin's place just outside Orlando, I just don't know if a mailing address will suffice since the primary address and mailing address would be different. I feel like that situation as a whole is just sort of a recipe for "more trouble than it's worth" when I can afford an incredipass and I'm definitely going to be down there enough to make it make sense financially, especially with all day park hopping.
