Oh for sure, I don't expect any company to have an active SL presence, but it's funny to me if the corporate presentations they made years ago are still there, like accidental time capsules and failed monuments to a digital future that never came

My favorite part of How To with John Wilson was when he interviewed the Second Life Land Baron who had too much social anxiety to evict his virtual tenants and just wanted to talk about how nice it is that a woman with a beautiful, attractive and sexy avatar said "how are you" to him

I was out of the dating game by the time that tindr came out, from what I hear it was pretty glorious for about 6 months before everyone found out about it and ran it into the ground. Facebook was like that too, for awhile it was just a neat way to connect with other young people but once anyone could make an account everything went to poo poo. I am in the process of missing out on chatgpt at this very moment, it sounds like the dumbest poo poo imaginable imo

Yahoo used to have a dating site. A friend of mine I think actually met a girl on there and dated her for quite a while. Didn't Yahoo used to have a LOT of features in the early 2000s? Like you could click on a games link log in and just play random games like Chess and Poker and trivia with strangers on the site directly? Does that feature even still exist? What was that big tetris-like/columns-like web-based puzzle game that was huge around 2005-2010? I don't know if it was Candy Crush that long ago, but I remember having a supervisor was really into it. I never got into any of those web-based games like that during the early Facebook era when everyone else was going nuts for them.

I got into Homestar Runner before it was cool and I tried to show it to a lot of people at school but they all called me a dork and told me it was dumb. Then like 1-2 years later I was over it and it wasn't funny to me anymore and that's when it became super popular and people told me I was a dumb dork for not liking it.

Someone mentioned a "famous" internet person in another thread today whose initials are "CWC". I pretty much missed most of that poo poo. Its probably not a bad thing but at the time I probably would have been right in there following along. I don't think I would have done any actual trolling of the person, but I definitely would have been waiting with bated breath for the next updates, meltdowns etc...

I'm too lazy to search but there were videos on youtube of a guy that would toll people in second life. Like they would be screaming at him to leave a "house" that they hung out in. Funny yet disturbing that someone could be that disconnected. In 2000-2003 Yahoo Messenger video conferencing was like chatturbate if you knew where to look. People were a little more open about sex online when you could hide behind a screen name and no social media to expose you. LiveJournal also had lots of homegrown for the same reason.

I've been on the internet forever and Prodigy and Compuserve before that, but I somehow missed a saga I wished I followed along as it unfolded. I can't think of her name, but there's a fairly well known crazy internet woman who posted crazy stories iirc of rape, homelessness, being really smart and rape (similar to the bandit auditions in Blazing Saddles).I think she posted it all on some old personal page or blog and people really bought into it at the time. However, I'm fairly certain the last time I read about her, people had dug into it and while she's crazy, most if not all of the stories were completely fabricated. I first learned about her ~10 years ago but I think it all her stories took place in the late 90s. I'd look it up but can't remember her name and the last reference I remember was in some old PYF thread.

I haven't played any MMORPGs since...2001? I spent a lot of time in Ultima Online when it first came out (even getting to 7x GM), then EverQuest. And even though it's single-player, I have avoided games like Skyrim because I could spend my whole life playing them. Now I spend my whole life here instead bloodysabbath posted:I met my wife just after the dawn of the iPhone. PC Gaming. I played Quake, CS, Unreal, etc back in the early 2000s, but then got an xBox and then a PlayStation. Those seems to do the trick for when I wanted to play something and I didn't have the cash to build a gaming PC or a room for it. By the time I got a decent laptop, it was Windows 8. About a month after I sold that and bought a MacBook because gently caress Windows. Well that mac finally died (11 years!) so I got a Win11 PC. It's not great but being able to having some decent games is nice. My career changed recently and I have more time and need a hobby, so I may look at building something. I really want to play Elite Dangerous in VR
