I have been installing Stalker GAMMA for the better part of the entire day now, it seems to have stalled out downloading a mod in the mod list called Aydins Grass Tweaks. Can I cancel this and restart it? The instructions didn't really mention a scenario where it can't download a file and stalls out and I'm scared to gently caress anything up at this point.

Yes, you can cancel and start it back up and it'll pick up where it left off. You should check whether you're temp banned from moddb, however; if you are, either wait two hours for the ban to clear, or fire up a VPN and start the GAMMA installer again.

Earlier in the thread there was a post about two controllers laying a trap in Radar.

This happened to me today after having run through the place about 200 times. Quite a surprise.

Here's someone else's video of the experience.

Once I killed a lone Bandit at the pump station from the Clear Sky lookout tower (also killed all the Clear Sky guys art the tower and fishing village) I went up top to have a look around. Saw two cats B lining their way to scratch me up but managed to brain them as they went over the foot bridge.

Then had a snork make it all the way up there, then a gaggle of Flesh and Boars also started acting up. Last thing that tried heading my way was that Lurker.

My first two kills ever were with the knife, playing "run around the tree to not get shot" against a patrol of military soldiers from the southern checkpoint on my first venture out of rookie village.

After, of course, whiffing every single shot from my starter Makarov cause I had no idea what I was in for re: STALKER ballistics(tm)

Ah those were the days.

This reminded me of experiencing the sheer desperation of trying to clear the Cordon Car Park in order to rescue Nimble the first time I started playing. Circling a bandit with neither of our shots landing, then both dealing with stoppages until I'd had enough and started wildly stabbing. Then using the bandit's own busted shotgun to try gunning down his buddies.

I feel like the big problem with the knife in the original games is that the animation is just so bad. It feels like it shouldn't do any damage so people maybe try it once, go "oh I'm not supposed to actually use this" and then never touch it again.

2023 has become the year when we got a chance to gather opinions about the demo of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl from thousands of players across the globe. From your feedback, we figured out two key points: the one to celebrate and the one to consider.

The first one: the Zone remains the Zone. In its true beauty and after our likeness. The game feels and plays like a S.T.A.L.K.E.R, the atmosphere, hardcore style, and harsh and unwelcoming environment are ready to cook, and we can’t be more grateful for these words, as they sum up both the key intention and the main inspiration for the project from the very beginning at the same time.

The second one was: that the gear in the backpack should be checked one more time to ensure it would not fail us in the most needed moment. On the technical side of things — the game needs more QA and tweaks.

While there is no way to make another delay sound less dim, we decided to be clear about our reasons for postponing the game for the sake of yet another wave of polishing.

The final release date for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is now September 5, 2024.

Kinda sucks in the short term because I wanted to play this in the next few months, but I remember Gamescon(?) impressions being mostly positive but with a resounding “needs more time in the oven”. So hopefully September allows them to stick the landing, as much as you can for a Stalker eurojank game, that is.

I might use that extra time to replay the original trilogy before the new one releases, but I think playing modded has infected my brain too much at this point and going back to vanilla would be hard for me.

I had a pseudogiant tear through Yanov Station this morning. Six stalkers dead, all of the light sources destroyed. Hawaiian's still acting pretty chipper... but I think he's hiding a deep sadness behind some fake cheer.

Finally took the plunge and setup gamma. Good lord it is way different from anomaly vanilla. Also amazingly more resource hungry, my ryzen 5600G onboard graphics is fine with vanilla, gamma is like a slideshow even on lowered settings.

I kinda only wanted it for the snow mod inverno (which i got working on gamma). If im understanding this mod manager correctly, if i just disable all the other 400+ mods, will it essentially just revert to vanilla + inverno?

If that's all you want, why wouldn't you just install Inverno on top of vanilla Anomaly?

Ha, i mean, yea, you got a point! But I’m not ready to give up on Gamma yet, if the above would work, I’m just gonna take a while to figure out the mods i want to play with.

You could just create a new profile in MO2 for regular Anomaly with Inverno and any other addons you might want. I dunno if just disabling the entire GAMMA modlist wouldn't create a lot of instability since it's got other plugins and whatnot going on also. It does sound awfully convoluted if you only wanted that one addon, which doesn't appear to even require GAMMA in the first place.

Killswitch
Feb 25, 2009
Yea, i was initially curious about whether my onboard graphics could handle it, which was a resounding “no,” then i just tossed in inverno to see if i could get it working on top, which was at least a “yes.”

I should probably just go with MO2 like you mentioned for the time being, I’ll come back to give gamma a fair shake when i get a proper video card.

The gameplay was incredibly jarring, very much not stalker as Ive known it the last 15 years. But I suppose it’s not fair to compare it like that based on the sheer scope that is gamma.

I watched it for the first time last year and it's really good. Also weirdly similar to the game in feeling, there are times when it's quiet in the zone and it evokes a similar feeling to the long slow tracking shots. You're simultaneously fixating on elements of the environment and also trying to pick up on threats.

Weird timing I just watched it a couple days ago. It might be one of my favorite movies now. Every frame is like a fine art print.

I came in here to see if I could figure out what graphics mods I could install to make SoC look a bit better and holy hell am I more confused now than when I came in. Why do all of the improvements have to gently caress with the gameplay?! I was interested in playing SoC circa 2004 or 05 but my computer was a little long in the tooth by the time it actually came out so since I haven't actually played it I'd like it to be pretty much vanilla...I think. It's hard to say with a game with this much cut content.

Long story short I bought SoC on sale on GOG and I'm giving up on figuring out mods and am just going to play build 1935.:q: How bad of a decision is this?

The original GSC games are varying levels of janky. In terms of functionality I think clear sky is probably the worst, but in terms of gameplay coherence I think they steadily improve and SoC is the definitely the most incomplete feeling compared to CoP.

I don't honestly know how well SoC will run on a modern PC and to be honest I think it kinda looks like poo poo, without modern shaders it's incredibly drab in a way that is both a technical limitation and a function of the time it was produced. The levels are great and can be lifted more or less wholesale into the current custom engine but the original lighting in particular is kind of dire a lot of the time.

If you haven't played any of the overhauls you might fare better with it, personally I don't think I could tolerate the problems of its age and it being a lot more of a linear experience.
