Disclaimer, being a CIS white male I am not the authority to speak on this.

You can have an accepting and safe local community and still have state and county laws along with local and state police that make those areas a risk for someone in the LGBTQ+ community.

Pull up, thread!

I recently did a small demo of the Power Platform at work, just to show what is possible. A little bit of Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI. My team lead is onboard with building out a proof-of-concept for an easy win.

I'm one of those that want to automate anything and everything. I'd automate this post if I could.

Yes because the last time that I mentioned that painting all rural areas with a broad brush was bad I became the main character of the thread for a day with the exact city neoliberals I mentioned making GBS threads on me and I'm still kind of sore about that.

Hey guys, I come to you looking for advice.

I work help desk for a company, and have been in the role for the past several years. Each year I've progressively been given more responsibilities, and last year I received a promotion to a senior analyst role. This is an hourly role. Every several weeks I'm on call after hours for escalations, and during these weeks I log several extra hours regardless if I'm called or not. This has been fine and I've had no issues being on call one week a month. I also lead a sub-team within the help desk that has extra duties and responsibilities. It now appears that this sub team is going to have me as a separate escalation point, regardless of time of day, or day of week. Compensation has not been discussed for this potential of always being on-call. Also, I'm not compensated for leading this sub-team in any way shape or form. It's just extra work that the other analysts don't have to think about.

Any thoughts on how to proceed on this? I know the job market is pretty poo poo, and I'm worried about approaching this in the correct way.

I mean I also hate neoliberals but pretending they aren't better than the fascists (when they aren't collaborating and protecting them anyway) is silly. Yes, there some small towns that are better, but categorically speaking bigger cities are both further left (or, in amerikkka, less right) and tend to have more de jure protections, especially in states that swing blue.

I may loving hate the democrats, but better someone who suppresses transphobia than someone who revels in it. Quieter, too.

Bring it up with your manager and express that you don't have time to manage your primary help desk responsibilities while simultaneously being a team lead/24x7 escalation contact for the sub-team.

If that sub-team is so important that it needs a 24x7 escalation point, then it's time for them to invest in it by splitting some analysts off from the help desk. Otherwise,

Yeah, sometimes I have the sense of a sack of hammers and expect people to not have their heads as far up their asses over time. But nope, people who have Jason Aldean levels of small town knowledge are going to continue to be arrogant and think that they know what's best for the flyover people. Very helpful to yell "Learn to Code" at the impoverished areas. The impoverished areas that the natives are being driven out of by rich city people as they move in and make the COL skyrocket. They're like a bunch of locusts who finished destroying the livability of their cities and are moving on to their next target. Also before someone accuses me of dogwhistling about black people, I'm referring to rich almost entirely white people from my experience.

I'd rather live in most small towns in Colorado as an LGBT person (which I am, last time people assumed I was a straight white cisman straightsplaining as they straightsplained to me) than a lot of big cities, but nuance is lost on people who have no perspective of life outside of their urban/suburban enclave. BTW Colorado has basically all of the LGBT protections at a local level.

But also don't come to Colorado, we're full. Unless you're from another country in which case welcome, let me know if I can help you find anything.

And I reiterate that by painting the people who live in rural areas as bigoted bumpkins you're driving people who might otherwise agree with you away by insulting and dehumanizing them. A significant amount of rural CO is reliably blue, hence recent gerrymandering. Although that doesn't necessarily mean much, when I was married to a black woman we faced a ton of racism on CO's front range which is as reliably blue as it gets, oversimplification does nobody any favors.

Put them all in a single Docker Compose file so you can orchestrate the whole stack and have them talk to each other on their own docker network.

There are some prebuilt container images for bundling WireGuard + rtorrent/deluge/your client of choice that handles all of the safety/killswitch stuff.
