quite a long time since i’ve heard the old “russians are going into battle without guns” trope, but lol the russian guy playing along and saying that yea of course, and the surviving dozen are elite killers and will win the war themselves it’s a bit weird because the guy seems so knowledgeable about the economic stuff, but it just makes me second guess he does know what he’s talking about even though it’s all plausible and easily verifiable

Ben's good at looking at the numbers and his predictions seem solid, even if he betrays his convictions, like how he assumes Russia's economy would have collapsed had the EU ransomed the gas money in the beginning of the war, like that wouldn't have consequences either.

I played it off the patreon app and it did fine. anyway. Jon & mark desperately need an expert to come on and talk about Yemen. they’re way too focused on broad historical context, but Houthi Zaydi Shiism doesn’t say anything about Ansar Allah’s politics or the coalition they’re leading. Jon makes a point about all the socialists in South Yemen being killed, but the remnants of the Yemeni Socialist Party are supporting Ansar Allah. it’s yet another situation where the Zaydi hillmen have changed their allegiances to meet the current conditions.

It does seem like a lot of the things suggested by him for how Europe totally could have crippled Russia are a bit of wishful thinking. For example saying that they should have just put all the gas payments in escrow to be released when the war finishes. I can only imagine Russia would just tell them to gently caress off and shut off the gas.
