In the last year or so I have gotten into WOW (Women Of Wrestling), which was started by David McLane (of GLOW fame), and figured I would seek out the relevant SA thread. I was surprised to find GLOW (from netflix) mentioned in the OP, then I saw the post date; that fictional show is what made me look into the real show and then seek out his modern production. At the time, it was on AXS and out of reach but it has since migrated to the CW (or at least the stations that were CW). ... based on the last couple pages, am I the only one who watches WOW?

-WOW has surprisingly large tv ratings considering that nobody has ever watched it. -Except Tom Lawlor, who once watched one episode. -They used to have AJ Lee as a coach. And that's pretty much all WOW discussion that has ever existed.

karmicknight posted:how the gently caress are you even supposed to watch WOW. I went the completionist route, watching everything they have done since 2013; they effectively did a reset in 2017 and little carried over. There are some legacy characters still involved with their backstory swept under the rug or tweaked to be less complicated. If you were to watch an episode, I feel like they repeat themselves enough about what's happening that you can pick it up pretty easily actually; they threw some legacy folk into the mix recently that came out of left field with no real explanation though. duckdealer posted:You might be the only one here who does! duckdealer posted:Any thoughts on the promotion? To be honest I've only heard bad things so never really checked it out myself. The one killer was that I went on days 3 and 4 of the taping and they did like 5 or 6 episodes each day; I jumped like 3 months ahead and had no idea what the gently caress was happening with a few of the girls (there's going to be a hell of a twist that airs in the next couple weeks) and there were a couple I had never even seen before. There's one part of the production that was unexpected, the audience is primarily made up of extras; I happened to be late both days so I didn't get to see the line of actual spectators before the doors opened but I can't imagine there were that many based on that fact. In general, it's got some kooky storyline poo poo that's a bit odd but for the most part it's passable. Since going to see it live in December, I watched the Wrestlers netflix show and then The Other Side of the Ring (a documentary specific to womens wrestling) that provided more insight. The mother daughter WOW tag team (The Mother Truckers) are heavily featured in Wrestlers; the daughter (Haley/Holly) mentioned how WOW trains and that some of the girls are straight up actresses. I was quickly reminded about GLOW and what I saw live made much more sense after I learned that. duckdealer posted:Have there been any standout matches you could recommend? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuE7Z8e2GL4 I will have to think back and look through the videos to find some others edit: while any with the mother truckers tend to be good to watch, as holly is so tiny and is thrown around like a ragdoll and keeps going, this one is pretty good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZc50ZyUguE princess aussie is a high flyer and got shafted for a long while over the championship, finally got it and then got it swiped away in short order; this is a good match between her and one of the bigger girls: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjaSQ35nQq8 this was a humorous one that aired last week with chantilly chella; it is great how her chant is based on her original walkout music but they try to keep it the same: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k7Sbkw2vew EvilMoFo fucked around with this message at 11:28 on Jan 18, 2024 |

I came to find info on where to see Sareeeism 3 and I found something more fascinating in these WOW posts. I don't mean any offense it's just a promotion that no one talks about, not even to dunk on like the NWA or MLW. So seeing a fan be passionate about it is very unexpected and kind of cool. I know the show is on the same basic stations ROH on Sinclair was but I completely forgot that so seeing people ask "how do you even watch it" is kind of my first reaction I hadn't thought about their TV since I saw the last post about their viewership.

Sumie Sakai has been the fixer behind most of the American indie promotions bringing over Joshi wrestlers Spark has always had the biggest money mark behind it but it's still surprising they've formed a dojo https://twitter.com/SparkJoshiPuro/status/1748445967114809646 Of course I'm wondering how involved Emi will be given her open statements about not being able to bring the Darejyo concept over to America, her links to Sakai, and her advertising real training for women who want to go pro while she's been in Japan. More details here: https://dojo.sparkjoshi.com/ It'll be operating out of the Orange Avenue Gym in Orlando Which is in fact the same place where Matt Riddle and Shayna Baszler (and Sumie) run their BJJ training sessions https://www.rudosbjj.com/ fez_machine fucked around with this message at 10:50 on Jan 20, 2024 |

My one big thing for 2023 I think was finally paying attention to Natsupoi. Could y'all throw some recommendations of her matches at me? I've only seen a few that were available on YouTube (like the one with Chihiro Hashimoto and some tag team matches).

I don't know how much it would be worth watching without the context of the buildup to it (the prior cagematch with Tam should be fine and I thought it was good too anyway), but that 10 woman match in Mid Summer Champions in Tokyo in 2022 signalling her allegiance to Cosmic Angels felt like a big one.

Here's the matches from here I gave MOTYC nominations to (which basically means ****¼ or above) 23/4 All Star Grand Queendom - Prominence (Hiragi Kurumi, Risa Sera & Suzu Suzuki) vs REstart (KAIRI, Natsupoi & Saori Anou) for the Artist of Stardom Titles 4/5 Fukuoka Goddess Legend - Mina Shirakawa vs Natsupoi for the Wonder of Stardom Title 8/8 5★STAR Grand Prix Night 6 - Natsupoi vs Syuri 3/9 5★STAR Special - Cosmic Angels (Natsupoi & Saori Anou) vs Mei Seira & Suzu Suzuki for the Goddess of Stardom Titles. Plus there's the Hashimoto match you mentioned & she was part of the Himeka farewell gauntlet, which was really good but also a gauntlet around Himeka's retirement so Natsupoi only plays a small part. There was other very good stuff from last year like the Suzu Suzuki match in the 5 Star GP (caveat that I'm a huge Suzu mark & probably slightly overrate some of her stuff), & I know Meltzer liked the tag match with Anou against Mariah May & Mina.
