Ah but that rare run that gets you to the multichest room (1 out of my 3 attempts today) makes it all worth it! :suicide:

About 45 minutes, which is about as long as a dungeon for about ten times the loot

I started actually doing coils this week in earnest (with pubbies) and it’s actually a fun game mode. Like drat this owns. Running pyroclast titan and I got the “any kill can charge your melee” wish and L M A O

I have pretty good luck getting plat on pubby runs and yeah, they take 45-50 minutes. Sometimes the pubbies suck, but it's always nice to have somebody else drawing aggro.

How hard is a solo plat run? I would assume the last pathway is about Legendary Campaign/Neomuna patrol levels of difficult?

the pathways themselves aren't too bad and the "events" are manageable if you stick to cover, but the bosses suck. especially the god drat wyvern.

The one encounter that made me think “it’d be nice to see everyone’s respawn timers”. Had a pubbie spawning asap then dying shortly after while me and the other started timing it to give us a chance. We got through it but yeah that room kinda sucks.

Yeah if you spawn in alone, it puts you right out in the open with the boss, well boy, three yellow bars and a crowd of adds mowing your rear end down. I really don’t think any modifiers loving with health regen or revives have any place in matchmade content.

When I started playing midway through last year, I thought the Witness was like, the secondary bad to tee up the true "Leader" of the Darkness, since the true force has to be kind of unknowable, right? But then, I guess the Witness just... is that guy? I think?

Sort of. The Witness is the foremost wielder of the Darkness and the effective leader of all the Darkness-aligned factions. But it isn't literally an incarnation or avatar of the Darkness. The Darkness is a force of nature that most likely doesn't have a consciousness, the Witness just wields it to a greater degree than anyone else. It is to the Darkness what the Traveler is to the Light

It's certainly arguable that the story was more fun and better written when the Darkness was an amorphous concept without anything approaching an in-game personification, but this is where we are now

Bobby Deluxe
May 9, 2004

I fully expect the Witness to pull a Fable 3 and say something like "I was just trying to achieve the final shape to toughen this universe up for what's waiting in the other universe" before dying, to reveal a cutscene where we are invaded by the flood 2 or a pentagon or something.

"poo poo, it's like a whole 2 sides stronger than the Witness!"

Pirate Jet
May 2, 2010
The Witness has a cool design and performance(s) and the idea is good but we spent literally years being hosed with by Savathun and when the Witness showed up they looked menacing in one cutscene, then we didn’t hear from them for a year, then they stood in front of the traveler for like a week doing nothing in the Lightfall campaign, then they walked through a door and we never saw them again. It’s almost impressive how much Bungie has been pulling convenient excuses to avoid building them up and letting us get to know them outside of a single exposition dump in Season of the Deep.

THE LIAR
I preferred Sanderson's interpretation of the Darkness because the themes at play were really interesting (I just love his interpretation of the Darkness and the Hive as capitalism taken to it's most extreme) and also, it just had a more fun personality and dialogue. I think I'll always prefer that to what we got.

But I still think the Witness has been a cool villain and I think they've been appropriately built up from Shadowkeep to now and I thought the scenes between them and Calus were really good. But I'm also the only person on the planet who enjoyed Lightfall's story, so.

I’ve said this before but the Light is Marxism-Leninism (an immortal science whose practitioners are led by a Vanguard), the Darkness is capitalism, and using the Darkness to fight the Darkness is socialism with Chinese characteristics.

and honestly it still sort of applies because under the newly revealed paradigm the Light is concerned with the material…

The witness as the big bad is ok. Fine, even. The pyramids being empty and the whole sol invasion being a big lot of…. Nothing? Planets went away (for a bit) then they’re back and they’re ok? Nothing really happened? Pyramids are… not doing a hell of a lot just chilling being darkness like? The bulk of the forces are Calus / shadow legion and their only purpose was to stall and find the Veil.

The taken are capitalism subsuming the useful parts of other ideologies into itself, even the criticisms of itself.

It really does feel like we needed some Pyramid-themed enemies but Bungie just can't find the time and space to justify adding a new faction.

I mean there's the tormentors and the two mini rhulks that are coming in final shape, but it's really too little too late.

I would have liked to see some sort of cyystaline entities, like some sort of machine maintenence drones but looking like 1984 Dune holographic shields. Just something nuts and outside of the box.
