It also takes a while to update when they change the store layout, which mine seems to do way more than they should.

Yeah, it's helpful until it just says "front wall" or it gives no location because it's on the side of an end cap.

Wegmans is beta testing this for a couple of their stores. Should be nice because now you try to find some kind of cheese and it will just say "dairy department" which covers the whole back wall of the store, with at least 4 different sections with cheeses.

Our house came with pendant lights in the entryway and dining room that look like old sagging tits. I've replaced the dining room light already but I don't think that my ladder would let me reach the entryway lights. I don't want to buy a huge ladder. What's probably my best move here? Try to find a contractor who'd be willing to do it, or rent a bigger ladder?

I have a half inch PEX pipe that serves as my instant hot water heater condensation line. The fitting where it attaches to the water heater is leaking. This is weird to me as the drain and pipe exit vertically out of the bottom of the hot water heater and the fitting is obviously above the rest of the pipe. I banged the pipe and it doesn't feel full of water like it's frozen and backed up. But here we are.

I've never undone a PEX pipe fitting. Do I unscrew it? Just yank? Carefully cut the white plastic crimping bit? I really don't want to damage the water heater by going ham on it.

Also this instant hot water heater has been the bane of my existence and it's all Gary's fault. My Gary owns an HVAC company which we actually considered a boon, but it turns out he was so loving bad at his job he sold his house after loving this thing up so badly rather than fix it.

Also what are people using to upload images now that imgur sucks?

Best way to do it may be to order for in-store pickup and wait until you get a confirmation.

This is the way, at least at my local Lowe's. It's never more than an hour or so between order and confirmation, so I pre-order the things I absolutely need specifically, then I go to wander for the rest and pick up the order at the end.

A physical book is def the best password manager, assuming you use unique passwords and make them challenging. That said, the downside is obviously super inconvenient.

For digital, I can’t recommend 1Password enough. You make one very difficult password and then it makes everything else just randomized, and you just copy/paste from the app. Unlike Last Pass, they have yet to be hacked as well (yes you never know).

On this topic, reminder that for iPhone at least, you can designate who can control your phone and info if you pass away.

Having worked phones for 14+ years, I’ve seen a LOT of people struggle recovering info when someone passes and no one say, knows the lock code, knows the password, etc. it’s morbid, but having digital stuff in order for when you pass is honestly something I do recommend (I know you’re not saying otherwise, but just wanted to note).

The only downside I have found to using one of those password/passkey-generating algorithms (including Chrome & Firefox) is when logging in to streaming services from one device to another, or when we travel with a Roku. It is an enormous pain in the balls to try & key in the proper string/PW, especially using the remote to navigate the character field

There are at least three different types of pex connector. It sounds like you're talking about expansion pex, in which case you want to cut the pex off entirely and leave the expanded connector on the fitting. There is no saving/reusing the expanded section of pex, so no need to fight with it while still attached. Now you want to use a sharp utility knife to cut off the expansion ring, then the pex itself under it.

Yeah my netflix password is basically "password." gently caress it. Also any Roku device which doesn't use the 4-character account linker should be ashamed of itself. It's a key feature of Roku devices.

As an SH/SC mod I feel obligated to +1 this. 1Password is great. That being said, I have had issues getting older folks to use password managers and a physical book is just fine for them.

I did get my mom to start using a scanner so all her paperwork is digital and I highly recommend that.

Most of them you can set to use "diceware" passwords. In 1Password the option is "Memorable" when generating them. That will let you do a handful of words and a special character between them if you want. Much easier to type and if they are long enough they're plenty secure.

That's true it's still a pain in the butt to write a longer password with the 'arcade game high score' method of typing.

Part of it is that you have to recognize what you’re protecting with the password and allocate how many fucks to give accordingly.

Something that has saved credit card info? Give it a real password. Your actual bank account? Give that a best practices random password.

The Netflix that you need to type in using awful phone controls? Who gives a gently caress make it aaaaaaaaaaa and be done with it.
