Welcome to the Pro Acryl cult. Apparently (according to Jason) they're releasing a NMM Gold 6 colour pack at Adepticon this year.

Starting on my World Eaters, they're actually really fun sculpts to paint, probably cause they have less trim than a regular Chaos Space Marine

Was thinking about getting the AP Fanatic complete set, but then saw the price. I guess in a per-bottle breakdown, it's not bad and they're getting good reviews...but still shocking. Gotta weigh whether I really need that many paints.

I'm going to use what paints I have and buy new ones as needed. Maybe I'll even try mixing some colours with the paints I already have.

Have you considered the freehand potential of painting on individual grains of sand? Think of the real estate you could work with.

I hit a problem that should have an obvious solution, but I've never done it before, so now I'm running myself in loops instead of just biting the bullet and doing a tester. I need to paint brown things in a snowy setting, mostly yellow-browns, so I need desaturated cold highlights and warmer shadows. Light blues and purples will still get me where I need to go, right?

I'm thinking of ordering this vallejo set even though they're small bottles. https://acrylicosvallejo.com/en/product/hobby/sets/cases/basic-starter-case-80260/ and working my way through them. This seems to be a good "bang for buck" at 70 bucks. they are the same as the regular vallejo paints, right?

Working on a Kings of War army, and so I thought the most obvious place to start was painting banners. I absolutely adore old-school paper banners, and this was my first time sitting down and painting some. These will be going on some orcs. Hopefully, they will also be painted at some point, but right now they’re sitting on my priming sticks.

You can get full-sized bottles of VGC for $2.50-3.00. If you're paying $3 per, that's the equivalent of 23 larger bottles of colors you know you can use, and they don't have goofy D&D-themed names you have to look up to color match.

paint sets with more than a dozen bottles are always a ripoff unless you are an obsessive completionist or you're buying a line you like but can't normally buy by the bottle. kickstarter sets and, oddly, citadel are the only exceptions i've ever seen.Ominous Jazz posted:I'm just saying the best looking blue i've seen from citadel paints is named world eaters blue that's fine. the problem isn't so much that the names are goofy, but that they're changed from the regular VGC color names so when you want to buy more Beholder Blue or whatever, you need to look up what the actual name for it is in the VGC line. As much as I love buying paints, this is the set I always reccomend people getting started. https://acrylicosvallejo.com/en/product/hobby/sets/basic-en/introduction-72299/ You can usually find it on amazon for around $35 and you will use all of these colors. Grab some Army Painter washes and you have everything you need to paint like 95% of the miniatures out there.

Happens to me whenever I get on a no-painting funk for a while. You need to shake them like they own you money. Resin print painting question: I dug out a bunch of printed squigs from my attic. When I primed them I noticed that one of them is still a bit gooey and runny on one side, and the primer is just melting off. I assume it didn't cure correctly. I bought them like, two-three years ago, should I just chuck it in the bin or is there a way to save it?

It might be that or it might be that they didn't clean them correctly or for long enough (or used old alcohol that was full of resin gunk). You might be able to strip them, wipe them down with lint free cloth, and leave them on a sunny place for a couple of hours to see if it improves. It sounds resin-gunk-in-your-alcohol-y, I didn't realise how often I'd need to change it and ended up with tons of models where I had to wipe the oily poo poo off them.

First tactical squad completed. Just like the Rhino, this was a learning experience. The razor wire is twisted garden tie, it annoys me that it wouldn't stay as twisted as I wanted. It's hard to see in the photo, but that's a dead Ultramarine. Overall I'm quite happy with how the bases turned out, I wanted a real muddy WW1 battlefield look to them. The squad and their ride

I paint super infrequently and my paints come in those little dropper bottles, they settle but I haven't had one go 'dry' like a GW pot. I use this guy to mix my paints before I use them and haven't had any issues, even with years of gap between use. Same concept as a lab vortex mixer but with a little clamp for paint bottles and an auto-off. The only problem with dry paint in droppers I've had is when I transferred all my old GW paints into droppers and the cheapo bottles I bought started cracking on the threads.

It replaced the Reaper Starter Set as my recommendation when it came out because it's the same price for 3 more and larger bottles. It's a fantastic price for the colorr you're going to actually use. A bottle each of AP Soft and Strong tone go in the gift bag as well. What I don't have at the moment is a perfect starter brushes set to point people towards, partly because that Reaper set used to be bundled 90% of the time with a pretty solid trio of a decently sized brush for blocking, a small one with enough capacity to not immediately foul the bristles, and a flat for drybrushing and now I never see that bundle anymore. There's a bunch of sets of the right kinds of brushes for ~$15, but all the ones I've seen people get are crappy synthetics that feel frustrating to use (both won't hold enough paint, and shoot it straight into the ferrule).
