There is a subset of the left-wing people I follow online who are all-in on "genocide Joe Biden" and are stating they will never vote for him, and will vote for anyone who runs against him. And these are people who were ful I try to make allowances for them because these people are either Palestinian or closely connected, so they are living through a moment of great trauma and I appreciate that it's hard to make rational decisions when the not-Trump choice is actively arming Israel and so, to them, is an active participant rather than just (like every US President) a rubbish politician who is failing to stop someone else committing one. I get it, I understand, and I hope they get back to remembering that Trump would be, AT MINIMUM, exactly as bad, but also 99% for sure much, much worse. Outside that subset, there is a large number of accelerations trolls and tankies trying to exploit the suffering of Palestinians in order to scupper US democracy because America Bad. These I have no time for. In between are a bunch of basically decent people caught between the emotional distress of those in pain, and the malicious intent of those trying to disrupt, getting caught up in the "well they are both basically the same, therefore why *shouldn't* I vote against the one currently supporting Israel?" and not seeing that if Trump was President right now he'd be declaring all the pro-Palestinian protestors enemy combatants and terrorist supporters and clearing the marches with tear gas and rubber bullets. You'd likely see some kneejerk law making the Palestinian flag a banned image or something. People really did seem to forget or ignore 4 year of slide towards fascism, and the attempt to overthrow democracy, all because someone else who is objectively less bad is currently not doing the right thing. Yeah, politics sucks, people suck, and no it isn't right that you have to hold your nose and go for the least worst choice on offer, but when the options are vote for someone you dislike or potentially never vote again... E: terrible page snipe, I'm sorry

I don’t put a lot of stock into terminally online people talking about “everyone they know” voting 3rd party or whatever. These very forums were plastered with that poo poo in 2020 and the final result was the Green Party went from 1.1% of the vote (1.4 mil votes) in 2016 to 0.3% of the vote (407K votes) in 2020. I know the more esoteric ones talk about their favorite flavor of socialist party instead but those never get over 0.05% of the vote anyway.

Like, you don’t visit a small town and hit up Denny’s for breakfast, you go to the diner. The average town in Iowa is 4 antique stores a dollar general a subway and a Casey's

How about we acknowledge objective reality? Prices are dropping, gas is dropping, the US is not really involved in any war. Trump got a bare majority in a state he heavily campaigned for and anointed himself God Emperor, 49% of the biggest Republicans went "nah".

I hope this isn’t too E/N but since we are talking about the big wet boy and his electoral chances, I’ve been wondering if putting a pause on major life decisions until after the election is a reasonable idea. Long story short I am thinking of going to library school. Not sure if it’s worth trying to pursue any new professional skills though when it seems somewhat likely that Trump might win. Like is there any point in trying to improve my life if a dictatorship is around the corner? I know this thread is pretty sure that Trump would only win through some fuckery with the electoral college, and I’m hoping that it doesn’t come to that. I’m in Boston so I know I am relatively safe compared to Texas. But at the same time I’m not gonna be fooled like I was in 2016. I know the circumstances are different, but I also know the chuds are more delusional and gung ho on revenge than before. Idk I’m not sure where I’m going with this anymore, guess I’m wondering if other people are also putting things on hold until after the election .

You either want to work in a library or not. Your real choice would be if you want to do public, academic, or archival I guess. Definitely go for it if the library system you work for is paying for some or all of it though.
