Interestingly enough, hours before the initial Iranian strike, this meeting happened.

One can't help but wonder if they discussed the upcoming strikes and are doing this in conjunction with plausible deniability so as not to get their respective local populations too riled up.

Actually I'm pretty sure there was an independent Balochi state after partition that was almost immediately invaded by Pakistan.
Yes but my point is that prior to partition it was the brits who decided where the line was drawn between Kalat and Iran, dividing up Balochistan. They drew the lines. Heck didn't they draw the line between Iran and Iraq?

The fall of the USSR to I would say about 2011 or so is a period in world history when almost everybody thought the US had Done It and just wanted to sign the paperwork, get their american flag hat, and get on with life. Even the Taliban tried to surrender and reach terms.

Unfortunately the western elite are fully, totally high on their own supply and got so coke brained during that time that eventually they thought their own propaganda about spreading freedom around was true even while they were bombing weddings and stopped doing the kind of realpolitik you need to run an empire.

You could put the end of that short period at the Russo-Georgian war in 2008 but I said 2011 because I think when the US started drone striking its own citizens overseas is when you could tell something was really hosed because a) the soft power required to just get the local suzerain to arrest the malcontents you don't like has failed and b) you don't even have the kind of access physically to the target for a surgical hit so you are forced to fall back on less precise methods of assassination.

Now the tail is fully wagging the dog and the pitbull vassal states like Israel are starting to look at their decrepit elderly hegemon and wondering what he tastes like.

I mean yes the UK, in consultation with nominally independent Qajar Iran, did formalize the border but I don't think it was very different to the traditional border of Iran. The modern Iranian province of Sistan and Balochistan was part of Kalat for ~150 years but prior to and after that time it was part of Iran.

As far as the border between Iran and Iraq, I think it is basically the same as the old Ottoman border. I suppose they mostly drew borders within and between the league of nations mandates.

no idea what the terms or proposal actually was but a another article linked in the piece had this to say:

quote:

Israel has said it is giving a chance for diplomacy to prevent Hezbollah firing on people living in its north and to push Hezbollah back from the border, warning that the Israeli army will otherwise take action to achieve these aims.

so yeah, Israel is attempting to dictate terms to Hezbollah while offering nothing in return

That and control over Suez. Egypt will probably be the area the empire tries hardest and longest to maintain control over because it's so important for trade.

Chisolm was assigned to Company E, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Hunter Army Airfield as a culinary specialist non-commissioned officer.

I'll dig up my book on this, but a problem with trade warfare from the 1700's onwards is that shipping could continue - if a convoy system is used. However, a convoy system requires direct state oversight of commercial traffic, including scheduling. In 1752, 1808, 1812, 1916, 1939, merchant ships demanded they be able to sail alone instead of waiting for convoys to form, and it wasn't until French and American privateers, and German commerce raiders and U-Boats, started running up the numbers did they agree to the Admiralty setting the schedule.

We live in a world where the loving Admiralty Arch was sold off to developers, they are not taking control of civilian shipping.

The shame is I feel most people won't understand the gravitas of what you've just said. Very accurate analysis.

Even if there was a miraculous spontaneous desire to do what is necessary the institutional know-how is simply long gone. That takes generations to re-grow under the precise right conditions and we don't have those either.

Not to be confused with meat.
Lieberman and various other political officials are claiming that Likud reached out to the opposition several times with offers to bring him and Lapid into the war cabinet. For Lieberman, the deal was contingent on his promise to stay in the coalition after the war ends, and for Lapid, that he would stop talking about holding elections. They were also considering the option of giving Ben Gvir's position to Lapid, though without taking him out of the government entirely. In both cases, the offers were refused, and Likud has denied making them.
