You lose all the more specific and applicable words and begin to substitute with more simplistic, broad words that make less sense. Like everything being "beautiful" and "strong" when it makes no god drat sense in the phrase.

Random Stranger posted:It's not that there are special tree laws that are extra punative, it's that trees are very expensive. There's literally decades of time that goes into producing one. And there are a lot of shitheads who don't give a gently caress because there are trees everywhere so who cares if they just chop down their neighbor's tree that's blocking their view. They can just get a new tree (sapling) for twenty bucks down at Home Depot if they complain. Those assholes are the ones who wind up eating tree law as they find out how much a tree actually costs. That makes sense, but I prefer to believe trees just have a lot of free time to make up their own set of laws. Silly Burrito posted:It’s “coke” and I will nuke you all to prove this Look everyone knows this is all some sort of inside joke and no one actually calls all soft drinks coke, as anyone stupid enough to do that wouldn't have the cognitive ability to sallow liquids by themselves, and I refuse to believe people are going around giving people IV bags full of carbonated beverages.

Willatron posted:The trailer seems to suggest California has allied with Texas so right off the hop I'm assuming it isn't based on any real world political divisions. Yeah, I'm real confused what POSSIBLE inciting event would cause that? Unless it's like a complete alternate history thing where the politics are nothing like ours; an easy way to try and make some sort of summer blockbuster that can, at least on first look, appeal to everyone. A nice "out" to not have to pick sides, etc... Though maybe the actual movie will have something to say, but the trailer sure doesn't. It also has Nick Offerman as the president, and I know plenty of people would do drat near any poo poo acting gig for a dumptruck full of money, but he doesn't need it. I seem to recall he's also pretty drat liberal? (not the more libertarian type that a lot of people confuse him for because of Ron Swanson.) So I don't see him ever doing one of those straight up "Conservative values, hoo-rah!" movies. And it's A24, who has done Midsommar, Ladybird, Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, and Hereditary, among other things. I'll admit, at least based on the trailer, it does seem a little more "schlocky" than most of their other stuff, but I don't see it being anything CLOSE to a weird conservative fantasy of "real" Americans finally taking back their country or whatever.

I wish Trump could internalize that every power and loophole that he claims he should have access to "because I was president" would directly 100% then also apply to Biden. His brain is too laser focused on "ME MEEEE ME!!!!" though so I don't think he has the capability to understand that.

The strongest argument that can be made, as likely has been raised in the thread already, is that the defamation has fully done the harm it is going to and no further award is necessary since there is nothing to compensate. It's not a particularly great argument imo but that's the sturdiest reed upon which you hang your defense. Whatever the gently caress Habba is presenting, I have no idea. It'd be malpractice were it not exactly what I assume Trump wants.
