I can’t bring myself to watch more than 14 seconds of this but those 14 seconds included “Josh Briggs, he’s a brawler and stuff like that. And I see them doing what they did with John Layfield. John Bradshaw Layfield. So, again - storytelling.”

Incredible audio quality too, overall a complete masterpiece.

And the mercy seat is awaiting,
And I think my head is burning,
And in a way I'm yearning,
To be done with all this measuring of proof.
An eye for an eye
And a tooth for a tooth,
And anyway I told the truth,
And I'm not afraid to die.
Reddit thread on The Wrestler 16 years later which the vast majority a knowledge as both not just the best wrestling movie ever but one if the best films of the 2000s period alongside still correct bitterness at Mickey Rourke being robbed so the Academy could show how progressive they were.

But we're here for that wrestling fan and film literacy can lead to incredible mess.

Great at the time but feels less relevant now than back then. 2000s was peak has beens looking bad. Financial and drug issues dying too young. Now a whole new generation of wrestlers past their prime finding new avenues with far less tragedy like that than we saw then.

quote:

Great movie, though there has never really been a guy in wrestling who ended up like Randy the Ram. A guy who was as big of a star as he was supposed to be can make a good living in wrestling his whole life.

quote:

Scott Hall never went broke, that is actually not true. He made appearances at Indy shows(some notorious), but so did Nash who is definitely never broke- I actually met Nash at an Indy show. But, none of those guys were working death matches. Even at Flair’s lowest, say 2009, if he made an appearance to sign autographs there would be a line a mile long. Ram did the convention and there was no one there to see him. I guess Jake is the closest comp, but his demise was his own doing- The Wrestler just painted it as “this is the life of an old wrestling star” and it’s not typically for a star at the level The Ram was supposed to be. I’m not knocking the movie, I have seen it many times and hold it in high regard.

quote:

Didn't really liked it cause it focused on the bad side of wrestling i have nothing to compare it too cause i haven't seen the iron claw yet but it was ok for that time and they even turned it into a WrestleMania storyline which i kinda got into

And side story I learned Jim Cornette and Bret Hart hate it.

This reddit guy is pretty fuckin’ dumb to not get that this is Virgil/Vincent+Hall+Piper+Hogan+Roberts+Flair all divided by (n)

Like, c’mon, they aren’t telling the Jake the snake story, they were trying to hit the low notes of most of the saddest faded stars, that’s why they invented whole new wrestler characters to be the protagonist and antagonist

The Wrestler and The Iron Claw are both fantastic, showing two sides and eras of wrestling with stark reality, and The Wrestler is especially valuable in how it captured ROH on film. Very cool as a little piece of history in that regard.

Always remember that the former President was dumber than the dumbest person you've ever met by a wide margin

No wrestler has ever had financial issues or had to wrestle long past the point their body could handle it, in fact the industry is famous for guys making a good living and retiring healthy. I dunno what Aronofsky was on about with that movie.

He had a few house show matches after that but the Funk match did involve him getting hit in the head by weapons and suffering more concussions, which obviously isn't Terry's fault but definitely a sign Vince Russo deserves some of the blame. I think at some point Bret did realize this because Meltzer would talk about it, but Bret either forgot or decided the Goldberg stuff got more attention and focused on that.

As a positive side effect Ricky Steamboat was so over in that match that he got a singles match against Jericho at the following Backlash, and it was a pretty good match, especially when you consider that Steamboat last was an active wrestler almost 15 years before that.

As far as I can tell, there’s a fundamental issue with said white meat babyface poo poo and that it is for a company that that dude has decided is Always Bad

I can take some wwe ball-licking but when the dude was saying how great the bullshit DX logo “spray painted” on wwe hq was, you’ve got brainworms
