we got a light dusting of snow on monday but a lot of sleet and now the whole city is covered in a half inch thick coat of ice. it's supposed to rain today and go back under freezing until monday. people thought they were getting a snow day instead of like the worst ice event in decades.

I don't know about rapidly fleeing across an iced-over parking lot, but getting clear of your car after even a minor accident is generally a smart thing. Your exhaust is going to be stupid hot immediately after the car shuts off and cars are full of several highly flammable fluids that may be leaking after you hit a thing. It won't blow up, but getting blown up is probably better than getting trapped inside a burning car.

experts recommend the exact opposite. i dont know the numbers but a substantial amount of injuries and even deaths happen because the person gets into an accident, and while they're shell-shocked they step out of their car, not paying attention to their surroundings and completely oblivious to any other moving vehicles nearby. a friend of mine died this way ten years ago

it's better to stay in your car until you can get off the road completely and collect your head
