What. No. That's terrible advice. The safest place to be in an accident is inside of a car, with your seat belt on. Even afterwards you're safer staying inside.

Unless you're in a Tesla, then yes immediately bail tf out right away but why would you even get in one in the first place

https://www.usfa.fema.gov/downloads/pdf/statistics/v19i2.pdf
Each year, from 2014 to 2016, an estimated 171,500 highway vehicle fires occurred in the United States, resulting
in an annual average of 345 deaths; 1,300 injuries; and $1.1 billion in property loss

https://www.autoinsuranceez.com/gas-vs-electric-car-fires/
Hybrid vehicles actually come in number one with the most fires per 100K sales. Gas vehicles are second, and electric vehicles place third, with only 25 fires per 100K electric vehicle sales.
Hybrid - 3474.5 per 100k sold - 16051 total
Gas - 1529.9 per 100k sold - 199533 total
EV - 25.1 per 100k sold - 52 total

weird that the news doesn't talk about fires in conventional or hybrid cars as breathlessly as they do EVs huh, wonder why that is

EVs are cool but Teslas in particular are death traps for rich fools. Fun fact if you die inside of a Tesla there's a mesh built into the frame that prevents your soul from returning to the firmament

I don't know about rapidly fleeing across an iced-over parking lot, but getting clear of your car after even a minor accident is generally a smart thing. Your exhaust is going to be stupid hot immediately after the car shuts off and cars are full of several highly flammable fluids that may be leaking after you hit a thing. It won't blow up, but getting blown up is probably better than getting trapped inside a burning car.

https://www.cars.com/articles/after-breakdown-or-accident-its-best-to-stay-in-your-car-1420663217827/

experts recommend the exact opposite. i dont know the numbers but a substantial amount of injuries and even deaths happen because the person gets into an accident, and while they're shell-shocked they step out of their car, not paying attention to their surroundings and completely oblivious to any other moving vehicles nearby. a friend of mine died this way ten years ago

yeah for sure

probably because ev fires take days to put out with thousands of gallons of water then reignite weeks later

a certain brand of them tends to pop off randomly and trap the occupants inside too

They're only dangerous if you drive them, walk near them, or need a stable climate to live in. Maybe stop being so whiny

Edit: they might be dangerous even if you don't walk near them, like, say, minding your own business near a street facing wall but whatever. Grow up

the safest place to be if you're wearing an exploding vest of TNT, is to actually sit perfectly still with the TNT vest strapped on. people will give you a wide berth, mostly, and that way they won't risk jostling and exploding you.
