Broken Social Scene - Swimmers

Came up in my Discovery Weekly and holy poo poo. The horns at the end really tie it together. The whole track feels very nostalgic even though I didn't hear it till last month, I would probably literally die if I was exposed to this in 2005 when it came out and I was actually a teenager.

Broken Social Scene kills, they're so amazing. You just missed them doing their 20 year anniversary tour for You Forgot It In the People. I've spent years trying to find other bands that have a similar sound to them (rich, bombastic sound), but haven't really been able to come up with anything.

Blows my mind that both Broken Social Scene’s self titled and New Porno’s Twin Cinema came out in the same year (2005). Just a banger year for music with Sleater Kinney putting out The Woods, White Stripes with Get Behind Me Satan, Why? Elephant Eyelash etc etc.

Playoffs are no big deal,
don't have a crap attack.
Pitchfork is now moving under GQ, and a ton of people got laid off, which does suck. I still used Pitchfork, as a guide for any new music to listen to, and to check out the Sunday reviews for albums I may have missed. And, that doesn't mean I agreed with everything, which is a point that always needs to be said whenever Pitchfork gets mentioned.

I assume the website will now march towards irrelevance, and probably turn into what the AV Club is these days. I am old, so I miss when we actually had websites. I like Stereogum, but it's a headache going to their site on mobile now. There is ads everywhere, and the website keeps re-loading so I lose my spot.

Hmm, for me that would be 08, which saw Fleet Foxes self titled, Frightened Rabbits Midnight Organ Fight, Death Cabs Narrow Stairs, Bon Iver's For Emma, Forever Ago, Mother Mother's O My Heart, & Radioheads' In Rainbows. Pretty good albums.

1993 also had the album where the quote in your avatar is from! And Transient Random-Noise Bursts With Announcements.

2005 also had Apologies to the Queen Mary.

But every year is a good year for music tbh.

wow lol they namedrop Grammatics in this song, a band whose only album came out in 2009 when i was finishing high school. i was randomly listening to Anathallo (whose main guy was in fun.! i didn't know that either!) earlier today and i was trying to remember Grammatics' name because they reminded me of them. crazy. anyway Grammatics were pretty cool if you don't remember or weren't around for that:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uzKKtx5-2U

lol look at how 2009 this is. everyone's in head-to-toe H&M. the haircuts! god. anyway while i'm here here's some Anathallo. you can kinda see the baroque-pop maximalism tendencies that ended up on fun.'s first album starting here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmrdP1yu9C4

just feelin nostalgic about 2007-2009 baroque pop i guess. ending this post before i start getting weird about Ra Ra Riot

Last album was up with thier best for me. I grew up in Falkirk beside both of them and their albums then were about what we were doing then. Thier last album is about being old and getting older and I find that fitting.

Saw them for like 50 bux I think. This is for the Cat Power and Pixies show right? I've heard people talking about not having a great time at recent Pixies shows, and if its for the Forest Hills stadium you're chancing a rain forecast. I prefer to buy tkts for the latter right before it happens personally.

So yeah I wouldn't buy a tkt for 100 dollars on presale and just see how I feel before the show (I've had a pretty easy time getting tkts from stubhub for forest hills, might be the sizable number of seats).
