I got sucked into using FB marketplace to sell some baby/kid gear with an uncommonly smooth first experience. First person to enquire showed up when they said they would, had the right amount of cash, no loving around. Next items: 10 "is it still available" messages then nothing further, 2 scammers wanting to transfer money and claiming their son will collect it, and one person asking a billion questions that are answered in the ad I just want some cash

I've had better luck with gumtree. Still some dickhead no-shows but less bullshit than fb marketplace. More often than not if it's an item worth less than $50 I'll try and give it away to a friend or donate it if I can because the stress of trying to sell it isn't worth the cash. Someone on fb arguing with me wanting to pay $2.50 for a brand new, in the box slip n slide that I'd advertised for $5 broke me.

bee posted:I've had better luck with gumtree. Still some dickhead no-shows but less bullshit than fb marketplace. Yeah, I wouldn't bother with anything less than $50. I did a massive cleanout, donated things to friends, put a few things on the local buy nothing group and booked a hard rubbish pickup for the leftovers, so at least they won't be taking up my space any more. It's just the stuff over $100 (mostly fancy bike seats) that I have to deal with lunatics for. edit: I had nothing but bad experiences with gumtree

Sold an e-scooter on gumtree and it was 90% time wasters and one guy who wanted to meet me in the middle of a reserve in Park Ridge (presumably to wear my skin as a tuxedo). Took like 2 months to sell it at close to asking. All said, want to find a circular saw now and not looking to buy new.

Theres a group of us that all live in surrounding towns and we look out for each other for games/tech whatever we are all interested and once a month do a meet up at a pub. It's great. Gumtree and marketplace is a must for people wanting to buy second hand guitar pedals. Didn’t want to wank off with any of the people I met up with though so congrats if you find that.

Outrail posted:I don't understand how this could happen. We all join the buy/swap/sell groups covering the regions. In a groupchat we discuss who can get what, transfer money and then when we meet up, trade. Like at the moment I have a bag of Gameboy games to give to one mate, and he has 3 xbox games for me. A third is getting me to check a potential scammer here selling an iphone.
