I know we love Shax and just tolerate Ransom. But there's just no contest and it has nothing to do with their respective ages. R'som didn't just win against the crystal ogre, he didn't break a sweat doing so and the most he lost was his shirt when he flexed his muscles. e: He also maimed Mariner just to stop her from risking herself / to get the honour of the kill for himself. Yeah, that was basically the cartoon version of the bit in a movie where the hero knocks out the supporting character so they can make the sacrifice themself. Like in the Ace Rimmer episode of Red Dwarf when Ace decks Kryten to stop him blabbing about his injuries.

I think it really strikes a chord that if I needed to kill some time and had to pick something from the Star Trek catalogue to put on TV, I think I'd happily hit random to watch anything from any series other than Picard and Discovery. Even the bad Voyager/Enterprise episodes are still mildly interesting three act stories. e: I think SNW suffers because we've only had 20 odd episodes. If it's remains consistent for another 2 season then it'll sit alongside any season TNG did. Conversely TNG/DS9 benefit from the distance of time meaning we filter out the forgettable episodes.
