No, the best part about the former WoW quest writer was he said, "this is an impossible coincidence, you can't do this with animation rigs I know".

Followed shortly by him admitting "Oh, you'd have to ask someone competent with Blender, I don't know anything about character animation rigs."

Motherfucker which is it.

I'm glad paleworld is doing well and it ISN'T Disney or Nintendo or Microsoft or whatever because why not. I'm not even sure Disney has had an original idea in decades. Maybe not even then.

I really don't have like a big range on the Internet these days. I do stuff for school, I have Facebook, I play my games. I generally hear about games, even though I don't follow them. The thing that perplexes me so much about PalWorld is that I never heard of it until the day it was released. And now it's competing for most players ever? That's wild.

But I also think it says something weird about my little bubble. PalWorld isn't really talked about in the other threads I visit on somethingawful, for instance, while other games like Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Pokemon, Baldur's Gate 3, newer games I can't think of right now, whatever get brought up all the time. What niche does this game fall into that encapsulates so many players but NOT the players in the little circles I'm in? Because those circles incorporate Pokemon, survival games, things that I think PalWorld are part of.

Something that dawned on me a few years ago was the realisation that the worlds biggest games were just completely passing me by.

Further to that, some of the absolute biggest I've never even heard of or know next to nothing about, even within the context of still reading about games on a daily basis despite my own increasingly narrow tastes.

Then again I'm the guy sat here playing the same PC shooters as I was in 1998, Jeff Minter games and hoping someone does a remaster of Ridge Racer Type 4. It's not really a surprise that Palworld isn't on my radar, but it definitely just looks and feel like one of those things on a top grossing list that I've just straight up never seen before.

Extinction for our time

A Stargate game was just released today, with zero publicity or fanfare, Stargate: Timekeepers. It might be a move of desperation, as they are selling the full game but are only delivering the first half now. It looks like a Shadow Tactics/Desperadoes III clone, which is pretty grim just after the dissolution of Mimimi. If you have any interest, there is a demo available.

quote:

Stargate: Timekeepers is a tactical game in which you lead a team of specialists through a story-driven campaign featuring an original narrative set in the Stargate SG-1 universe. Sneak a newly formed team behind enemy lines, use your characters’ unique skills, craft the perfect plan and defeat the Goa’uld threat.

The game will launch in two parts, Season 1 Part 1 on January 23rd and Season 1 Part 2 later in 2024. Players will purchase the whole of Season 1 for $29.99 but will only get to play Part 1 for now.

That demo is loving rough, it's too bad that Stargate never picked up as an IP for video games, so much potential across so many genres.

I already thought selling an Indiana Jones game to newer generations was a bit of a stretch, but Stargate might be an even bigger one.

If they keep at it though, maybe I'll actually get a Space: Above and Beyond game at some point. :corsair:

I have over 100 hours in EYE. I still don’t know what a bunch of the mechanics mean like when it says “Bullshit! Ultra-failed attack!” but there are some pretty good levels where it spawns nonstop monsters so you can equip the minigun and play confusing French Serious Sam

4 is kinda generic, I think--it's been a while since I played it--but 5 introduces some new mechanics that make the puzzles more interesting. They're kinda late game, though, so the first half feels a lot like a rehash.

Nope, you’ve already played them. I enjoyed 4 having not played any of the games in a few years, but 5 was so similar to it that I didn’t get very far before losing interest. there’s nothing wrong with them, graphics are 30% better than the previous game etc but you know exactly what you’re getting. 5 had some bits where you have to only use one character for awhile which made you think a bit differently but there’s nothing there that feels very new.
