I mean, it does seem more likely younger people are going to be, on average, less bigoted, less sexist, and more tolerant of differences than previous generations. But not all of them, it's not like when one racist Boomer dies they are replaced 1 for 1 by some enlightened Millennial. Plenty of young Chuds left, BUT, not as many as before.

The state of the economy means a lot of the folks who want to flee lovely places can't. There's a big push to recognize that progressive people live even in lovely places and they can't just leave whenever they want. In GA it's actually kind of a cultural value - there's a whole culture created by the black slaves who stuck behind rather than fleeing the diaspora, who in kind taught their children that fleeing won't change anything and the ones who change things are the ones who stay. It's a point of pride that they didn't flee and it kind of becomes a moral thing that has created a culture where the progressives down here somewhat shame people who do want to flee. So it's not as simple as, all the progressives will leave - plenty of progressives paint that as running away and as anti-progess, and will come back with stuff like 'Bloom where you're grown'.
