The London Police don't look that great either to be honest... they originally closed the investigation in 2019 before ordering a review of the investigation 3 years later.

PWHL: Not yet.

NHL: Half of the league, when roughly two weeks into the inaugural season, the Montreal Arena burned to the ground, destroying the home rink for both the Canadiens and Wanderers. And while some will focus on the negative, you never hear any positive stories about the entire half of the league whose arenas weren’t actively on fire.

Edge: It’s close, but PWHL.

Has Briere had the most difficult first year or so of any GM in the history of the league?

- Least popular team in the city with a terrible culture at the time of taking over the GM position
- Long tenured, top line defenseman becoming disgruntled over pride night
- Top prospect said he didn't want to play for the team and ghosted them
- Goalie who had long been touted as the future of franchise might be going to prison for sexual assault

I read on Wikipedia that they couldn’t even find a team to trade his rights to last summer, so he must be so obviously guilty in a way others are not.

That’s just me speculating, though.

Ottawa’s interesting because they immediately dumped Formenton, but they’ve continued to give lots of opportunity to Batherson, including by giving him an A at times. He was on the WJC team and there’s pictures of him at the bar where the assault started.

This being the NHL, I’m guessing that teams are assuming that anyone outside of the 5 players criminally charged didn’t do anything wrong, even though the reports are pretty clear that a good chunk of the players on the team were, at the very least, bystanders even if they didn’t directly participate in the assault.

I think it's been known but not publishable for a while that Formenton was the main guy. The only thing really unknown was who the other 6 were, but even then there was like a dozen people who it seemed pretty likely were not involved.

It sounds like the 5 are Hart, Dube, Formenton, McLeod, Foote (Formenton out of the league, Hart/Dube leaves of absence, McLeod/Foote not at practice today), so maybe Batherson wasn't involved, or at least there wasn't enough evidence to charge

which is kind of a double Lou, trading for someone's brother who's also a criminal

except that's clearly not true given Formenton was probably the best of the players likely to be charged today

Hell, Samuelsson has been worse than Clifton recently. Clifton struggled early because the Galaxy-brained coach put him on his off wing and he couldn’t do it. Once they switched him back he was fine. The Sabres are the ones who signed him based on fancy stats, oh and coincidentally he was in the USA hockey development program under Granato. That probably had more to do with it.

Well Carter Hart is a solid 1A/1B type goaltender as it turns out.. his time under Torts has been well above average at the position.

New Jersey must not have known about Cal Foote because there was absolutely no reason to give that guy a contract to be a AHL callup dude with this baggage.. The guy is objectively not a NHL player. I mean I'm guessing they didn't even realize up until a few weeks ago when they called him up from the AHL instead of one of 3 other interchangeable AHL scrubs that they had available to them in Albany. Whoops.

It is true that nobody will even notice if Dillon Dube or Michael McLeod never play for their teams again. They are probably in the running for the worst regular roster player on their respective teams.

McLeod has actually been incredibly/(disgustingly?) good this year, a top 3 or 4 F on the team, but yeah certainly at the time of him loving off to Switzerland, Formenton was probably the most valuable of the 5, him or Hart anyway

Foote was a Lou styled brother thing but surely they knew, especially given all the smoke around McLeod leading up to this
