speaking of jon stewart does anyone have that clip of him in 2016 talking about how thin skinned trump is? there's one video out there where he talks about his twitter beef with him but i don't think it's that. it's the one where it's a bit more serious and he discusses how trump is fundamentally incapable of letting something go. how any perceived slight against him causes everything to halt. i think it was in an interview and i can't find it anywhere

Yeah I've been in tech now for the last three years and if there are any MAGA morons, they are smart enough to not talk about it. I'm also the only white person on my current team of five and my previous team was also from all over the world so I'm probably not the best anecdotal evidence.

I went back to finish college around 2015-18 at a public university in a red state, there was a pretty high percentage of self identified libertarians in my classes but again, I only ever had one express outright chud views. Most of them were just kids with unexamined world views from their parents who didn't want to pay taxes on their future computer toucher incomes. I only had one incidence of chud behavior happen, at the time everyone sort of froze up like a deer in the headlights when some new guy on a project started telling his ~hilarious~ transphobe stories because they are all conflict averse nerds, but once they regrouped he was very firmly and politely told to not bother coming back

I went back to school in the same time frame and to get an engineering degree at a state school in the reddest of red lands. Students were surprisingly good, though there were a few poo poo heads. I tore down some racist posters someone put up overnight, for example.

I recall one incident where a group of students were talking and mentioned that a professor made the one joke conservatives have. I'm the old guy so they look at me and I go, "What a loving rear end in a top hat," and everyone stood up and cheered and they were happy that someone agreed with them.

In my office, though, it's pretty much all pro-Trump. No one talks politics, probably because no one wants to start poo poo, but people are reading Infowars on their breaks, there's a guy who's really into crusader and viking re-enactments, one who wears shirts that indicate that he both opposes socialism and doesn't actually know what it is (he also wears shirts with his NFTs on them so I smile at the thought of how much money he's lost), and every red flag that could be waved. I'm planning on looking for work that will move me as far away from here as I can get later this year.

The sad thing is, this is a really good job where I got thrown in the deep end of running total product development from start to finish right out of school. I like the work and I'm making things that actually benefit people instead of working on defense department poo poo. If it wasn't for the fact that it was located someplace that makes me miserable every day of the week, it would be pretty good.

It's good to be a G

The reasons that most people excuse trumps cognitive decline are media focus and because he's just plain loud. People associate cognitive decline with soft spoken uncertain tones. Trump brashly and loudly yells about George Washington protecting or storming the airports at valley forge (I forget which) and the media is just like "oh yeah, he didn't really mean that, his brain isn't calcified week old oatmeal"

Many such cases!

I'm sorta hopeful that the old school cut-throat-effective McConnel wing of the party is dying off. You'd need a whole set of qualities to emulate Trump, and I can't think of anyone who could do it. He really is a unique (and terrible) phenomena.

For starters, you need to have no shame, or awareness of the concept of lying, or any empathy, some brain damage due to prolonged drug use, so hypocritical that hypocrisy has no meaning, etc.

Politicians constantly forget how good the optics and residual benefits of just hugging truck drivers and visiting warehouses and factories. Those are the actual voters that you can swing away from Trump. Which is exactly why Hillary and her business class politician friends never loving went to any of them, because those are the dirty people who will never go to her white napkin dinners.

It also suffers from Scorsese doingnit as a crime film. I get it, that's his wheelhouse, but the criminals are all the white men so the Native Americans who are central to the film all get sidelined. It's noticeable that in the epilogue it's a white guy (Scorsese himself) who is the voice of those people.

There's a pretty good two hour movie trapped in the meandering structure of Killers of the Flower Moon. The movie that's there wound up being decent, but not really something that I'd say someone waa missing out on by not watching it.

Yeah. It's a slow drumbeat of a movie, and I feel like the wikipedia article on the killings was actually a better way to experience the story of the characters so that's pretty damning.

i am not that worried about it because most celebrity loudmouths still haven't done the very careful image groomjob that trump took DECADES to cultivate. from the 80s to the mid 2000s at least, trump did pretty much everything in his power to build his mythos as mr. goodbusiness, mr. toughdeal, mr. greatsex, and mr. yourfavorite. it's a tough trick to even get to the second coolkid title nowadays without loving it up and fracturing the aura of invincibility, keeping it up for 20+ years is basically only a massively overprivileged obsessive narcissist's trick.

just as a for example: how's mike rowe doing on cultivating the square deal conservative everyman image nowadays? oh, not so great. he posted some ridiculously tone-deaf "bootstraps" poo poo on twitter. everyone found out that he's been doing blue-collar blackface. because he's actually from a very well off family and grew up in a period of immense opportunity. because his immediate ancestors had just finished murdering 5% of the human race, through one method or another.

no chuds are going to rally behind him now that he's been so popularly taken down multiple pegs so early. donny had decades of being Right About Everything, publicly, before people really started opposing him. rowe is already a loser. next personality.

rinse and repeat for everyone who could potentially step onto donny's toe pillows. it took decades to grow trump. the only person who's competently followed his same path, from 2000 to ~today, is elon musk - who is incapable of holding the presidency and is in the middle of making an rear end of himself in the most public way possible.

chuds will always be with us, but it will not be easy to replace their degenerate underlord.
