Some of the quests are locked behind things most players will never do (like 15 hell boss kills, where only you can have the killing hit) so I feel they will have to be adjusted at some point to be more realistic to the average player.

Geared warlock is going to be absolutely disgusting as you hit them with dark reflection up for like 2/3rds of your hp bar. They'll also be functionally immune to magic from non-clerics given anti-magic is apparently applied as an invisible additive damage reduction.

new patch is real real good, extremely easy to get money now that all weapons, armors, and instruments are sale-valued at 3/5/8/12 gold per square regardless of type for white/green/blue/purp, it means that very often just loading up on green gear is an easy 200g extract

I'm assuming they'll nerf this money fountain but maybe not because I think they're specifically trying to get people to play HR now that it's free, available from char level 1, and your rank is primarily based on extracting HR with actual treasure instead of gear (since treasure is worth the absolute most adventure points to get titles right now, even more than actual kills)

Tried the game again and holy poo poo it still feels like poo poo. Like everything feels like I'm playing underwater. I keep hoping they'll make this game feel good but I think we this point this feel to it is intentional.

Developer Comments:
Happy holidays to all adventurers! It took longer than expected but we have now updated to an experimental match-making system so solos, duos, and trios can now play across all the maps offered in the game. The current implementation uses a timed rotation so that each party type will have access to a different locale. We have plans to improve this system in the future and we are working on a rework of a larger Goblin Caves for the next update.

We have also been hard at work on adding more protection against cheaters and abusers, including teamers. We have added several anti-teaming measures with this update. Basecamp will no longer display the timer and playercount to make it more difficult for pre-teamers to coordinate their sessions. We have modified the spectator mode for High-Roller dungeons so teamers can’t use the feature to disclose the location of legitimate players. The reporting system has been updated so you can now report players you suspect of teaming. We’ve also implemented ping-locks to several regions to make it harder for teamers to congregate on low population servers. We will continue to monitor and adjust these systems as we strive to ensure a clean environment.

Finally, we would like to announce our first Holiday Sale event! We will be offering a 30% discount for both the Standard and Hold the Line editions until Jan 4, 2024, so let your friends and family know if they want to get into the dungeons for the holidays!

Who knows how the balance is going to feel when the servers are back up, but before the game went down for this update maintenance I'd say it's by far the best state the game has ever been in. The Regular/Low Roller queue restricts bringing in anything above white quality, so anyone has a decently even chance in combat. This is really great for a brand new player, or someone who hasn't played the game since EA. Maps now have fixed escape/down staircases that allow many more options during a run. High Roller is the only way you're going to use any green or better quality gear, but merchants now buy green+ equipment at significantly higher value so it's pretty easy to amass a solid horde of gold with a solid group. On top of that HR doesn't cost gold to go in anymore, it costs Adventure Points depending on your current HR rank. You accrue points depending on what you accomplish during a HR match to gain rank and rewards like titles, big coin bags, and exclusive skins. Merchants now have quests too, many of them scaling pretty impressively as you complete their missions. Before this patch, and sale, one of the biggest issues was the quest system demanding you have every single part of a fetch quest at the same time to complete it, which took up a huge amount of stash space, and pretty much forced you into grinding for new stash tabs. After the servers get back up you're going to be able to turn in items piecemeal, one by one. There are a ton more map variants for Goblin Caves and Crypts too. Bard and Warlock have been fully fleshed out, tons of perks and abilities have been significantly changed with many of the worse choices becoming significantly better. New stats were added to help mitigate absurd stacking potential. Much more too.

TLDR: very good

I think it’s really good, building off last patch. Hard to say how the map rotation will feel in practice, but ironmace is typically very responsive if the player base really doesn’t like something.

I hadn't started playing this wipe until last night but they've made some changes I think are very good. Normal matches max out at white gear so you know you're taking people on at a level playing field. High roller is free now and that's where you go in with the good good.

They just added a map rotation where all maps - Ruins, Goblin Caves, and Crypts - rotate through team types. So each one could be solo, duos, or trios. I don't like the maps besides Crypts so I like that I can go in as a solo against other solos/duos.

First game back almost made me rage quit though. Came across a rogue/ranger pair where the rogue VOIPed "hey buddy" which reads friendly to me so I crouch spammed and the ranger did it back. Moved onto the storeroom and happened upon a portal but some other idiot team had kited a wraith in there. Kited it myself into the bedroom and closed the door so I could portal in peace and the pair came and killed me. Wish I'd known there was a static extract in there which I discovered my second game (btw they added those to all the maps).

Oh and even crap gear sells well to merchants - greens for 30 and so on. Used to be you wouldn't take anything not sellable to players out but it's worth it to take what were trash greens and blues out. Made 400 gold off two escapes that in previous versions of the game wouldn't have even cracked 100.

My first kill of the wipe. Felt bad about that felling whiff because I knew it was over. Still getting the hang of the zwei but it's funny it's the meta for barbs now.

I like the new map having no swarm but I've never been a fan of their desire for more levels to the dungeon. Guess it'd be fine if the playerbase was the size it was during the early playtests but you shrink the player pool for matchmaking if they stay in matches for longer.

I am also not a ruins enjoyer so hearing they want to go back to starting all crypts runs on ruins is not good news for me. I play mostly barbarian and cleric so hard to have a good time on Rogue and Rangerer: The Map

Also I don't care about Druid, I don't think they should be focused on adding wackadoo classes when the ones that are actually in the game RN are in desperate need of polish/balance. Warlock is an obviously incomplete class that is almost unplayable in non-HR gear

I think they work on classes in tandem - Bard got finished when they added the skeleton of Warlock. They outright said Warlock isn't finished in the Q&A as they want it to have a beefy demon mode and I think all the balancing is why we haven't seen the next classes. I figured Druid would already be partially in and we'd be datamining Paladin at this point.

just to be clear they EXPLICITLY said that only ruins will be a testbed for 3 level play, crypts will remain as-is

this was actually a great interview, not sure about the google notes some rando made but they gave a lot of insight into short and long term views

- they hate the range meta but they'd rather focus on getting more overall content into the game before spending resources on that
- flea market is top priority because they recognize that it's stupid as hell to need to spend 20+ minutes to get any kind of decent gearing in trade chat (which also further locks out more casual players)
- arena is up first but they're trying to add more out-of-raid uses for gear from raids
- fuckin warlock demon form, and how warlock is actually meant to be a buff-eater class but they just haven't gotten there yet

lots more but I only caught an hour of it and forgot a lot beyond that

it was a really good interview; the current patch is the best state the game has ever been in by far and they're making even more and better changes

again they explicitly said that their original plan was to get druid working first then finish warlock but they just realized they have to finish warlock first and we'll likely see demon form before druid as another way of testing out changing player shapes

e: they even acknowledged they hosed up bringing back landmine rogues so presumably that's getting fixed soon too

Upgraded almost all Armors, Shields, and Instruments so that primary bonus stat improves at each rarity grade instead of at every other rarity grade.
Upgraded most Leather armors to give more 'ArmorRating' per rarity grade.
Updated Plate and Chain armors so that the amount of 'ArmorRating' gained per rarity grade is distributed across a wider range.
Upgrade the Frock to give more Armor Rating.
All Robes now give 25 Magic Resistance.
Updated the rotating map pool with the new Goblin Caves. The new Goblin Caves is a larger map that houses both the Cave Troll and the Cyclops.
Updated the rotating map pool with an updated Ruins map. The Ruins map now has red portals and static red staircases that lead to the Howling Crypts. Adventurers can delve deeper from the Howling Crypts to the Inferno.
Added the Elite Cyclops boss to the High-Roller Goblin Caves.
Updated the High Roller AP entrance fee for the Ruins.
Updated the HR matchmaking system. Solo Matchmaking now uses your Solo tier. Duo matchmaking now uses the highest ranked duo tier of the party members. Trio matchmaking now uses the highest ranked trio tier of the party members.
Added two new items that can be crafted from special items dropped from the Cyclops.
Bandages and Healing Potions can now be purchased in stacks of 3.
Dark and Darker now has an official rating from the Korean Games Rating and Administration Committee and can be serviced in Korea for adults age 19 and up.
Korean Localization option added.
Improved the visual effects when under water.
Torches that are thrown now do a small amount of damage.

We hope everyone had a happy holiday and a happy new year! We have updated the Goblin Caves and Ruins map as we continue our test with the experimental map rotation system. The new Goblin Caves encompasses a larger cave network accommodating more adventurers per session and houses two bosses. The updated Ruins now have red portals and red staircases that lead down to the Howling Crypts and Inferno.

This hotfix introduces changes to armors so looting higher grade items feels more satisfying. We have also implemented minor class balance changes we will be monitoring to aid us in a more substantial balance update in the near future.

Finally, we are happy to announce that we have received an official rating from the Korean Games rating board (GRAC) which allows us to service the game for players over the age of 19 in Korea. We have now reinstated the Korean language option and have extended our first sales event until January 18 to allow all our new Korean fans to take advantage of the holiday discount. Thank you!

New patch is good. Gear is stronger but makes you lean into a build path (vs having ubiquitous +2 all / weapon damage). The changes they made to ruins and goblin caves are very good. Though they could probably do a little work on where/how/how many portals spawn.

Hi Everyone! Our experiment with the new three-layer Ruins has gone better than expected and we have decided to replace the Howling Crypts with another instance of the Ruins in the map rotation. We feel that the extended duration of the sessions along with the additional risky decision to delve deeper, better aligns with the rich adventuring experience we originally envisioned for the game.

We also noticed that the new larger Goblin Cave map suffered from severe performance issues. This hotfix rolls out several performance optimizations and addresses the overall monster density of the Goblin Caves for a much smoother experience.

Finally, we have decided to implement a modified version of the spectator system for the High Roller dungeons. We realized that the removal of the spectator feature only marginally reduced the instances of pre-teamers while removing highly enjoyable content from the game. Players will now be able to spectate and report other players for up to 1 minute after their party has been eliminated from a High Roller dungeon. We will continue to work on improving these features while maintaining a clean environment for our players. Thanks!

Crypts is my favorite map (really the only map I like) so I hate this change. People were mostly delving deeper to dodge Goblin Caves in the rotation so uhhh lol

The buffs aren't really that great - weapons live and die by their moveset - and zweihander is still going to remain the go-to for barbarians.

normal trios in gc is so dead that I just kept going there solo when I needed to do my survive 25 normal GC runs, and or to just mine a shitload of cobalt

sidenote: very fuckin stupid that you have to survive 25 *normal* GC runs instead of accepting HR survivals for the leatherworker quests, I don't get what the point is there because it just forces me to go kick the poo poo out of some new players for 25 runs instead of at least doing it in HR (especially because they used to let you do it on either difficulty)

e: it's *very* funny that they did fully remove crypts in this last patch tho (insofar as now you do have to go through ruins to get crypts). I like this change mostly because it's faster to grind HR rep this way per run

Fixed severe frame drops in several areas.
Fixed an issue where DLSS would always be turned on when the client starts.
Fixed the Occultist Tunic’s primary attribute strength gain for each grade.
Lizardman's headshot damage reduction bonus has been changed from 15% → 10%.
Rogue’s Double Jump movement speed penalty has changed from -12 to -18.
Cleric and Warlock now can use to Spell Memory II.
Warlocks can now use the Heater Shield.
Warlock's Demon Armor has been changed from -75% reduction in magic healing bonus to a -50% reduction. The perk also reduces Will by -50%.
Invisibility Potion now has 15 Knowledge requirement for use.
Updated the Golden Viking Sword and Golden Felling Axe to give Luck and Magical Damage Reduction as primary attributes.
Removed the negative magical resistance penalty from the Golden Plate armors (Golden Hounskull, Golden Plate, Golden Plate Pants, Golden Gauntlets, and Golden Plate Boots.)

War Maul's movement speed penalty has changed from -55 → -50.
Windlass Crossbow's movement speed penalty has changed from -60 → -55
Zweihandler's movement speed bonus penalty has increased from -40 → -45.
Minimum additional movement speed modifier for random modifiers that appear on items for the ‘feet’ slot has changed from 2 → 3.
Minimum additional movement speed modifier for random modifiers that appear on items for the 'leg' slot has changed from 2 → 3.
Maximum movement speed bonus modifier for random modifiers that appear on the items for the ‘neck’ slot has changed from 1.5% → 1.0.

Updated the High-Roller Ruins so the Elite Giant Worm appears instead of the Common Giant Worm.
Increased the Adventure Points gained for bringing ‘Looted’ armor and weapons out from the dungeon. The adventure points appear in the ‘Item Achieve’ row of the results screen. - The amount of points gained is equal to the gold price of the item when selling it back to a merchant.
Increased the amount of Adventure Points gained for a PvP kill by 50%.
To improve accuracy when reporting players, only one type of report can now be made for the same target.
A game addiction prevention system has been added to the Korean client.

Developer Comments:
Hotfix #29 focuses on minor improvements to performance and addressing current instabilities. We are laying the groundwork for more extensive technical improvements in the future. We have also made some minor balance changes and some bug fixes while we continue to work on the larger content update coming soon. Finally, we have tweaked the Adventure Point so that adventurers can make progress by looting armor and items instead of just focusing on treasures and trinkets. We have also given a boost to the Adventure Points earned from PvP to make things a little spicier in the dungeons. See you in the dungeons!
