QuickJack agrees based on the page and a half in the QuickJack manual about thread sealants and how to not gently caress up thread tape.

Liquid Thread Sealant or Thread Seal Tape?
We have found that much QuickJack criticism or
warranty-related claims were caused by Hydraulic
Fluid contamination, with evidence of Thread Seal
Tape particles inside the Power Unit components
and the Reservoir.
To prevent this contamination, QuickJack is supplying a Liquid Thread Sealant in lieu of Thread Seal
Tape. If you want to use Thread Seal Tape over Liquid Thread Sealant, by all means, use what you are
most familiar with. However, you must carefully read and use the following instructions.

Using it so it gets into the system causes havoc on valves, especially extremely low clearance servo.

That jerky jerky motion you see on poorly maintained hydraulics is very often related to sticking valves because of that... And other various reasons.

So It's best to just use connections that don't need sealant at all. Although that won't stop many people from using thread sealant on threads for face/seat sealing surfaces lol.

Yeah most of the newer stuff my company has is sealed with ORB or ORFS which is nice except when the O ring falls out of the face on ORFS fittings.

I went over to the store and let them know, left my # and told the manager if they decided they wanted it back, it'd be ready on my porch. *I* didn't take it, and I'm not exactly excited about the prospect of walking it back empty if it's going to happen all the time.

A month passed and nobody came to take it off my porch. It's a nice cart. Sturdy, rolls smooth. But what in the world am I going to do with it?

This is VW's 16-valve motor and 5-speed trans I'd pulled from a '89 GLI I'd scrapped out. I ran it 300 miles directly before pulling it, ran great no issues at all, figured it would be a shame to part it out. I have the intake and headers and fuel rails and wiring harness hiding inside the shell of another GLI, the cart makes it easy to keep shoving the block out of sight.

Many years ago a friend in highschool's dad had a shopping cart with the basket cut off, and a couple of braces welded at the front of the horizontal "U" shaped part that the basket sat on and it was just about perfect to cart (no pun intended) a small block chevy around.

I'll probably try this in the Flannel Chat thread as well, but just in case, since I know a bunch of you are Subaru perverts:
The power steering pump on our '03 Outback positively howls when it's cold - ambient temps below 40F or so - until it warms up substantially. It just started doing that this past year. Fluid is up to levels as far as I can tell, and it's driven almost every day. Steering assist feels normal, just noisy. Suggestions? Time to replace the PS pump? Flush and fill?

This was yesterday, but I didn't see you ask in the Subaru thread. Yeah it's probably a worn oring on the suction line letting it get air in. The one on my '05 Legacy sounds awful when it gets to 15-20° out until it warms up a little. Try replacing the oring on the plastic inlet fitting, and/or the suction hose to the reservoir.

My pump also leaks out of the shaft seal a bit. You can get an overhaul gasket kit on eBay, or just replace the pump. But be warned, I went through 3 brand new pumps from Rockauto that wouldn't build pressure before they just refunded my money rather than exchange for another pump. I'm going to try hunting down a used OE pump and rebuilding that when I have time.

Somewhat related, Loctite/Henkel actually make a sealant that is hydraulic compatible. It can even be used on a sealing face in case it gets scratched/damaged.

I really wish I could use thread sealant, the piece of equipment I was mad at when I replied about NPT earlier is this janky pos, thread tape only because engineers can't be bothered to look up another Qualified Product, the SS galls to itself non-stop, our 10+ years experience techs won't stop putting thread tape on the 37⁰ fittings, which makes THEM gall, it's a man-portable piece of equipment, rated to a maximum of 120PSIG, but uses a 3000PSIG rated accumulator, so it weighs 80 lbs (but is marked as "about 50 lbs" on the name plate, put a stop to that poo poo and put "two person lift" stickers all over it).

Anyways, I like o-rings.

Locktite 592. There's also a grey thread tape I use for SS fittings that prevents galling.

Parker valves always leak for some reason, leaks disappear when you replace them with Swagelok. It's only mineral oil, not like it's hf acid or something nasty like that.

Trouble is, as Elviscat notes, it's a piece of company equipment with approved parts and supplies, and the powers what is won't approve anything else to use on it.

Yeah, that's the one. The plastic fitting should have an oring that is replaceable where it mates with the pump.

I mean, I think the 2.5 pump is ALSO not supposed to be rebuildable. Or at least I couldn't find a kit or parts for it direct from Subaru. But yes, it was fun swapping pumps 6 times and ending up with the same pump that I started with. That's why I'm gonna grab a spare pump to rebuild, unless I wait until summer and can just drive the other car for a few days in case things go sideways.

There's directions for disassembly and assembly for the 2.5L PS pump in the service manual, but it specifically says that the 3.0 pump is not to be disassembled, for whatever reason.

I know this will sound insincere to some people. If someone is posting from their perspective everything that has gone wrong in their life to the level that they did, you should have some doubt in your minds as to the honesty of their point of view and writing. It's my belief that they are responsible for a lot of their issues both from their conscious and unconscious decisions. I also think unwavering support from posters isn't helpful, it doesn't foster self reflection or improvement.

I agree and I have less animosity for this flavor of a similar problem. I do have a large degree of sympathy for Random Idiot since the world is not set up to support and care for individuals. They didn't get where they are on their own and shouldn't be expected to get out of this mess on their own. My point earlier was to say 'this isn't helpful'. We are not in the business of importing/exporting forum drama. Simply there was communication through private messages with clear and specific direction on topics that would be allowed on the forums. This is not full on policing, but moderating. There is a point that personal life and internet life clash and will cause exponential issues and the way to start building fresh and starting new is to separate those two things. We are extremely supportive of each other here, but the forums are not a replacement for licensed counselors or therapists. We want the best for individuals and the community here.
